So I questioned my wife on a $30.00 purchase....

for a makeup brush. I said, "$30.00, just for a brush"??

Her reply, "So, you spend $200.00 on pictures of men on cardboard that you just stick in a box. At least I'm gonna use my brush!"

Man I love her image

My girlfriend supports my addiction as much as I could hope. I wish she were more interested in it, but she just doesn't get it. In fact, she doesn't even have a collector's mentality. I wish she had a hobby in fact. I hope one day she'll get into metal detecting with me.

It would be nice if she understood the hobby a bit more though, I try to explain to her what I collect, look for, and what to spend...but I don't think she'll ever feel comfortable enough to help me by purchasing cards for me. Which stinks...sportscards for holidays rocks.

Your cardboard collection will likely be worth something when you sell it. A used make-up brush though....... image

I feel your pain, Ross. My wife tolerates my collecting as long as I don't spend the family money on it. As for getting cards for Christmas, that one's easy. You buy them for her to give to you. Sure it's not much of a surprise but you get what you want. Or give her a list of cards that you want that are currently for sale and give her the maximum to pay for it. Then you don't know exactly what you are getting but you know you will like it. image

Whenever my wife says something, or even gives me a bad look about a card purchase, all I have to do is point at her purse, her shoes, or any one of the dumb, pointless things she has hanging on our walls.

Overall I do have to say she is pretty cool about it though. I always get her second opinion before submitting stuff. She enjoys pointing out flaws in something other than me for a few minutes.

  • This morning I explained to my wife how much fun it is to do a PSA registry set of just one player. I was subconsciously trying to get her to start collecting. I mentioned how cool it would be for us to do a Cal Ripken Jr basic set together. I came home today and checked eBay. There are now about 20 Ripken auctions on my watch list. image

Nice job! I've tried to get my wife interested in some of my favorite players. Unfortunately Hakeem Olajuwon and Dirk Nowitzki aren't as pretty as Cal.
  • She's from Aberdeen and went to the same school as Cal so he is her fave.

Plus, I'm out of my league Chris...luckily she hasn't figured it out yet and doesn't question me or try to dominate me lol. Though, I ask before I spend more than $150. I tell when I spend more than $100. And I don't say a word when I spend less lol.

In all fairness, I own a brush that costs around $100...it's a superfine silvertip badger hair shaving brush...the girlfriend gave it to me for Christmas last year. It's really lifts the hair before a shave...best shave ever.
