Advice on a submission - please help!

I recently sent a 1936 Chicle Fine pens Honus Wagner card. It appeared to be about a 3-4 shape, and valued it as such. Well, the grade recently popped, and it got a 1 - Poor! When I think of 1, I think of a card that is falling apart, has stains or writing all over it. This card had NONE of that. That being said, my question is this - Has anyone ever had a card damaged during shipping/grading, where it didn't even look like the same card when it comes back, and if so, what did you do/was done about it?

Whenever I see a grade of 1 on a card that would otherwise look like a 3/4 there is almost always a pin hole in it. Obviously I haven't seen your card, but have had the same scenario.

  • I've never had a card come back not looking like it did when I subbed it, but I'm sure it has happened.

Just curious if your card might have had a pinhole in it anywhere ... particularly in the center?

Any paper loss on the back?

Be sure to post a pic or 2 when it comes back. Sounds interesting!

    Mike,

We must have been thinking along the same lines at the same time.

It's obvious that you're a much faster typist image

There is no way that card should get a 1. I would crack that out and resub it. Or you could be right the card was damaged some how during shipping or grading. That would really suck!!

The eyebrow and neck may be the pinholes -- the neck one can kind of be seen on the reverse too (as well as you can guess from a scan). Most likely culprit. Nice card either way.

Thanks...I thought it was sweet...I got it on the cheap, but had to pay $30 to get it graded (almost as much as I paid for the card).....the more I look at the reverse, I do see the small neck hole that you see Bosox.....I cant believe I missed it the first time.....

I've been kicking myself for two or three years for passing on a PSA 1 1952T Mantle that looked like a dead centered 6 with a very hard to see pinhole in the black border. They aren't the end of the world to me.

You guys have good eyes. I don't see a thing. I would crack that thing and take a good hard look at it. If it has a pin hole I would get a refund. That sucks you are out the grading fees.
  • There is another spot on the brim of the hat too. But, it is impossible to tell if those are pinholes or not until the card gets back from grading.

Got the card back...there are NO pinholes in the card....there is an indentation at the neck that DOES NOT break the card and turn into a pinhole....not quite sure why they are so hard on these oversized cards (SGC is the same way...got some clean looking R303B's back....'3' grade....no rounded corners...centered.....just not sure what they look at on the big cards.

I recently had some come back that while they still looked like the cards I sent in they now
    have MR Monkey hands creases.

I notified Joe who told me he wants to see them. I blew that off, as what exactly would he do after seeing them?

Tell me I must have missed the creases?

Not worth the postage to send them back to him nor the time.

    Good for you.
