Just wanted to give a shout out & thanks to Shane for a beautiful morgan - All around a pleasure to deal with
and super fast delivery.
While a nice coin all around, I absolutely love the reverse of this coin.
It's semi-prooflike with quite a bit of luster on both sides given the dark orange all over tone. Speaking of this type of toning,
I've seen a few morgans with this "look" ... anyone know just what causes this type of tone. I assume it's from an album,
but do not know for sure.

    Ron Sirna (Newmismatist) of TCCS told me that it is called "Tid-E-Bowl" toning. It had something to do with a promotion they ran, but I can't remember any details or what caused it. I have a number of them, and I think they are pretty. I've seen a couple of DMPL's with this toning, and they are awesome.

    Didnt they send you a silver dollar in a cardbaord sleeve as a promotion? I saw one at a show recently, colors were not as nice as that one.

    I was curious?
    Which NGC slab is the older version? The stamped into the plastic golden namesake on the back or the sticker?
    The tan front seems to be the same old style, but I have a couple different backside versions.
    I assume the old green fatties are first generation?

    They were in mostly No Line Fattie Holders. Here are 2 examples that look better than MS63.

    The coin below is in a third generation holder with the gold label stamped on the back of the slab. The second-generation holder does not have a logo or border on the front label. The first-generation holder is the very, very rare black slab. The fourth generation has a full width hologram label on the back. (information courtesy of Conder101)

    Tidy (sp?) House, a promotional for household cleaning products, featuring Morgs & JFKs in a cardboard holder from the 1970's. Morgs are seldom seen and the JFK's are always dark, splotchy, & ugly.
    Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

    Picked this up a month ago, monster pastel toning, sorry it's a scan which doesn't show anything. This is the promotion that your friend told you about.

    the Morgans pictured which are predominantly white with some rim tone look to me like coins which were dipped white and placed in the older blue Whitman albums with the plastic slides, the predecessor to the more liked Dansco of today. while they are agreeably nice looking coins they are almost certainly not what i'd call original.

    To add to what keets mentioned....a lot of the coins pictured in the old NGC holders were probably white when holdered and they acquired the rim toning from the paper NGC insert that was sealed in the same space as the coin. Whether they were dipped before submission is anyones guess but I would imagine it's probably 50/50 as we know dipping Morgans is and was a very common practice. image
