Need help. Computer related

Kelly bought me a new camera for Christmas. I finally figured out how to use it. This took me a few hours and a lot of cursing. Now I need some imaging software. All I need is a program that can reduce and merge images. Is there any inexpensive and safe software out there that can do that? I used to merge images with MicroSoft Paint but I can't find it on my new computer.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Please remember, I'm an idiot when it comes to computers and need something very easy to use. Thanks.

    I don't use that kind of software much, so can't say if it's the best or even one of the best, but I installed a freeware program called PhotoFiltre a couple years ago and it's done everything I've needed. Under Linux I use The GIMP, which is like PhotoShop but free.

    Paint in Vista is vastly improved and it comes with an quick image viewer too. I usually just resize the image manually in the viewer, take a screenshot, paste that into Paint, crop and save as JPG. Don't really need anything else. But like I said, I'm not a photographer or even a wanna-be photographer, so might not do for you.

    Down load Photoscape. It is free and easy to use. Just google photoscape. I think you will like it

    I use Photoshop elements. I paid for it when I bought my new Vista computer. I see Google offers something called Picasa for free but I haven't used it so I can't say how well it works.

    Very easy to use and it has a round ceopping tool for coins that is great

    I use photoscape (since I lost my photoshop CD) and its a good program for free.

    The camera, Canon PowerShot SD790 IS, came with ZoomBrowser EX and PhotoStitch. Neither one came with any documentation saying how to use it.

    Don, I hate to break it to ya, but I don't think they make software that is compatible with 5 1/4" floppy drives anymore. image

    Sounds like me, when I get new technology.

    Vista doesn't have Paint? Yet another reason I don't think I wanna go there. (Speaking of cursing).

    Oh, wait. I just read crito's post. New-and-improved Paint, eh? OK, but I am still not ready for Vista. I'm set in my ways; a creature of habit. My primary photo editing program is MGI Photosuite SE, which came with the old scanner I got in 1999 (it's a Win 95 program). I got so used to it that I still use it and have not graduated to Photoshop or anything of that ilk... yet. MGI Photosuite does practically everything I need but tends to pixelate or "crunch" images a bit when I use it to resize them, so I learned to use Paint for that, since Paint offers resizing by percentages.

    As to wives giving new gadgets as early-Christmas presents, ladymarcovan got me a 500-gig external hard drive, which just came out of the box seconds ago. Now I will be able to have my entire CD collection and files and movies and everything in a package no bigger than a paperback book, which I can plug into my laptop, my desktop 'puter, or the 'puter at work. Better than hauling a laptop around. I did have a little 2-gig flash drive which was great, but now I can have everything and still be portable.

    Collector since 1976. On the CU forums here since 2001.

    I use a freeware program called Irfanview... it has a handy re-sizing function that will do entire directories at a time.

    I haven't tried that Photoscape, but I might for the circular croping function.

    Me too, and it is easy and versatile. I highly recommend it for Microsoft users.
