selling $1.00 items on ebay with free shipping

LOL - wouldn't it just be cheaper to throw the stuff away?

What a waste of time

I won a .99 cent auction with free shipping awhile back...the seller shipped the item reinforced with cardboard on both sides and delivery confirmation...it was over $2.00 in shipping alone, much less supplies. He got a very positive feedback from me.

Oh, and I saw a seller the other day who is listing with free shipping to get the eBay fee discount, but in the auction it says all orders of $10.00 or more receive free shipping...if your total is less than $10.00, "please wait for an invoice before paying."

    Idiot.

And he has a 4.7 for shipping charges.
  • Why bother? The only reason I see him doing it is to bump up his detailed feedback scores. Personally, I don't sell anything for less than $9.99 on Ebay, It's just not worth the effort.

Yup. I'm pretty sure you could place a half used roll of toilet paper in an ebay store for $5.00, and eventually some fool would buy it...and probably pay for express shipping, lol.

Clearly, the $1 items with free-shipping are about buying feedback.

TOO risky for me. If you study the genesis of NEGs, you find that MOST
    are left for tiny-money items.

i dont do free shipping, nobody pays for my shipping lol- i got all 4.9.so im doing something right
  • Last weekend I did the math on what it costs to ship out my cards (envelopes, penny sleeves, top loads, etc) plus all the fees (ebay listing, final value, paypal). It worked out to $1.80 to sell a single card and ship it out. So, I decided to list a bunch of stuff starting at $0.49 and charge $1.80 for shipping in a top load inside a bubble mailer (w/o delivery confirmation). The cards I listed are nothing terribly special, and would just collect dust in my house. I thought it would be an interesting experiment to see just how much of this stuff would sell at this price point. So far about 1/2 of the cards I listed have bids, with about 8 hours to go.
