Tell me what to get...

I've had a devastating experience this week. I won't go into detail because this isn't the place for that. BUT, I need something to pick me up. So I'm running to Target tonight. So, now you know what the selection probably will be. It will have to be baseball. So, what should I get? What's hot right now? Thanks!

I wandered around Wal-Mart the other day and didn't buy a thing, they had mostly FB and Basketball and nothing looked good. I hope you find something to pick you up and pull a sweet 1/1 of whatever.

I hope all is well. Target has 2008 Topps factory sets that contain a Mickey Mantle GU card on top. So at worst you get the Mick! No matter what you decide on good luck!

Find a sitter for the kids and go do something romantic with your wife. If you need to go to Target, go get something "interesting" for you and the wife to play with. image Seriously.

Fly to Vegas and get a hooker and some booze. You'll feel much better after the weekend.

2 bottles of cherry hill pick you right up, make you want to open dinosaurs attacks and have fun doing itimage
  • The wife isn't around tonight. I don't really drink anymore, although to each his own on that one. I thought about the 08 factory set with the mick. Can't really go wrong there. But I already have an 07 A&G Mick bat and I'm afraid having another one might take away the luster of the other one. I know I can get the set without it though.
    Still not sure.

More seriously, I hope things work out for you, I think a lot of Americans feel a little (read that a lot) down right now. We will all bounce back I am sure, it's what we are good at.

I agree with the factory sets, seems like most brands are available now. Personally I would grab one of the football, but hard to go wrong with the baseball and get a GU Mantle card.
Collecting PSA graded Steve Young, Marcus Allen, Bret Saberhagen and 1980s Topps Cards.
Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.
  • Went with the 08 Topps set and the Mantle card. It's now in a hard case on the shelf. Will be putting the cards in the binder tonight. Also grabbed some packs. Got a Ryan Howard GU. Pretty cool.

  • Get one of the Topps factory sets with the '54 style Babe Ruth card. I've already got a 2008 set, but that's a great looking Ruth card. :-)

    RIP sir

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a saltshaker half-full of cocaine, and a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, laughers, screamers... Also, a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether, and two dozen amyls. Not that we needed all that for the trip, but once you get into locked a serious drug collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can. The only thing that really worried me was the ether. There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge, and I knew we'd get into that rotten stuff pretty soon.

is that from Fear In Loathing in Las Vegas? loved that movie
  • Actually, that's from the book. The movie was great, but there is not a better read out there than a Hunter S Thompson book. Hey Rube was the collection of all the columns he wrote for ESPN Magazine, and it's a great read for a sports fan. There's a story about HST being fleeced by Ed Bradley that is BEYOND hilarious. image
