Pickup: Penny Hardaway auto

Loved watching Penny played back in the mid 90's, too bad he got injured, otherwise a sure-fire HOFer.

Picked this up yesterday, I like how he signed with "Anfernee" (his legal name) as supposed to "Penny" (his nickname). I really like the full signature "Anfernee Hardaway #25" image -

Compare it to his autograph in his later career (signed "Penny Hardaway) -

I guess technically he'd be "Quarter-dollar" Hardaway at this point...the "Penny" wasn't adopted until the NBA...I didn't know this.

    edited to add:

Oh, and definitely a cool piece...growing up in Orlando, Penny was a childhood rockstar.

  • is that a high school or college card? either way, how could PSA/DNA authenticate the signature? that signature looks nothing like his "Pro" signature.. do you think PSA actually has high school homework to compare the signature to?

    i just wonder....

I'm sure much of what they do is handwriting analysis...to me, those two signatures share stylistic components, despite being very different.

That being said, that's a college signature, and they've done their homework...not that hard to get comparables.

the only thing you can compare in th 2 signatures is the "H" in his last name..

  • Yea I actually wish PSA/DNA would more do of that. Sometimes I get the feeling that they reject some autograph because a certain players have adopted a much simpler autograph later in career. More of this kind of handwriting or stroke analysis is really welcome image
