Help identifying item bought at the Shriners Show

Hello,

I bought the card in the pictures today and was looking for some confirmation from the hockey experts on the exact year. There are no markings what to speak of to indicate the year, but from what I have found I believe it to be from the Post set issued in 1982-83. The only reason I have some doubts is that according to the gretzky checklist I have the card should be number 6, this is 2. It is very possible my checklist is inaccurate so hoping there was someone on the board familiar with the set. For a point of reference the card is 1-1/2w, and 2l, and is perforated. The pictures do not do the card justice as I think this will grade gem mint, or mint at worse. Any information would be greatly appreciated, I already checked the population reports and this set does not appear between 79 and 89.

That's Wayne Gretzky on that card. He was a hockey player in the 80s I think.

Looks like it might be a game piece.

Try contacting Kraft Foods. They might have some information in their archives vault
    that would help identify it.

Not being in the PSA Gretzky Master Registry Set says that this baby may be
    extremely rare.

Try emailing one of the owners of the top Gretzky registry sets, like Frank Marci.

    just a thought!

It is definately the 1982-83 Post set. I have a complete set still in its panel form from 1983 when I sent away for it. The Gretzky card is exact. The checklist you have must be wrong. I was thinking about seperating it and sending in the Gretzky but I just can't seperate it from the panel. I did pick up this card on another panel on ebay last year for about $15.00 but it was more off center than I thought and would not have graded too high.
    Good Luck.

Milbroco, you are the best. My checklist has Grant Fuhr as #1, and Lee foligno as number 2, and then cut-off. I now see that that was based on their uniform numbers, although not sure how Gretzky was listed as #6. When I submit this I will list it a #2 Green I think.

Poppa, good call on the game piece.

I picked it up for $4 and was pretty happy with it as I figured it was on the rare side, 1st time I had seen in over 27 years of collecting Gretzky cards.

    Thanks again.
