Wow?! There Are Twenty (20) 1954 Topps Hank Aaron PSA 9s?

Up for auction/best offer is a 1954 Topps Hank Aaron PSA 9. That's cool in and of itself, but I didn't realize that there were 20 PSA 9 Aaron rookies as the seller states. I would have guessed that there were a lot less; more around seven (7) and perhaps fifteen (15) copies at the most.

Although it's worth serious $$$, I'd pass for a lower grade w/ better centering.

20 PSA 9s might sound like a lot, but they only represent less than 1% (actually .86%) of the total 1954 Aaron's that are PSA graded.

That is a generous 9 for sure. Still a tremendous card to own.

But how many of the 20 are the same card that has been cracked and resubbed hoping for a 10? I'd bet that the real number is closer to the 15 you mentioned.

I can't believe that card got a 9. It has a ton of chipping on the reverse. It looks exactly like my Hank Aaron rookie SGC 7 looked...even down to the centering and chipping on the back. Maybe I should have cracked it out and resubmitted to PSA?

Yeah, but how many 1988 Donruss PSA 1 Mike Lavallieres are there??

    Talk about low pop!

    Aarons rookie is very common...

1954 Topps cards are very common and especially unopened material that was opened before grading (1980s).

There are easily more than 20 in that grade, but not all are graded by PSA.

Eggggzactly! The instant I get a PSA 9 Aaron RC that has a 0.3% chance in hell at getting a 10, I'd crack it out and give it a shot. A PSA 9 is a treasure. A PSA 10 is a big house in the burbs and a decent car.

It would take more nerve than I have to crack out a PSA 9 Aaron rookie. I think this example would come back with a lower grade nine times out of ten. Perhaps ten of ten times.

Yes....like I said....that one was fortunate to have get the '9'.....I had an SGC 7 that looked EXACTLY like it...even down to which border was being favored!
  • Looks like a Psa 8 quality card to me. Would rather have a centered 8 personally.

it would be a good assumption that this card has a fair amount of nice, graded copies in the hands of the people who were among the first to submit cards for grading at all......don't forget, before The Registry(drug), card owners were grading only the very best of what they had, i.e. top quality HOFers & RCs to become certain of the authenticity of the raw copies they were forking out thousands of dollars to own.......try finding a raw copy of a '54 Hank you think you can trust now. heh.

I seriously doubt those that buy PSA 9 Aarons RCs do the crack and resubmit game. They may have the the card reviewed but cracking a $20k-30k card, not likely.
