Juan Marichal question

I was looking at some Juan Marichal cards tonight and more specifically his 74 Topps card(great card). I flipped it over and looked at some stats and it appears he broke into the majors in 1960. Guys like McCovey , Yaz , Brock, and Billy Williams broke in at similar times and played into the very late 70s. Juans last card was in 1974. Does anyone remember the particulars on why he retired earlier than the rest.

    He lied on his birth certificate. He was actually 59 years old when he hung up his cleats back in '74. He retired due to old age.

    Actually he had bad back problems stemming from around 1970 then re-occuring in 1972 and finally was forced to retire after a couple games with the Dodgers of all teams in 1974.

    He probably hurt his back when he was pounding Roseboro over the head with his bat.

    This is another example of why Topps should have made cards of players after they played their last season. Would've been cool to have had a card of Juan in a Dodgers uniform.

    Since Marichal only pitched in two games for LA in '75, Topps probably didn't even have a picture
