Another one bites the dust....
I drove by my local card shop today and realized that the place was gutted with a "for rent" sign in the window. This was the only shop on the beach and within a 20 minute drive of my house. It was one of those shops that's 3/4 coins and 1/4 cards but I had been going in there ever since I was a little guy and have the memory of pulling my first "game used" card there, among other great times. The owners were great people and never tried to rip anyone off (not that I saw). His stuff was a bit overpriced (average card shop) and his selection wasn't amazing since his focus was coins but he had the main products like base topps, topps chrome, bowman chrome, triple threads and a couple more, plus it was a great place for supplies. I don't know if he went out of business or just flat out retired (it was an older guy and his wife and they were the only ones that worked there), but it's still a shame.
Anyways......here's to you "Coins & Cards"

Fortunately, there was a sign in the window that said they had moved to the other end of the shopping complex...thank goodness. I felt my heart drop for a moment. I opened a few packs of '08 Masterpieces and there was a Carl Crawford and Warren Spahn that I threw in that pile of cards for you.
I'm feeling lucky these days, I've found 6 or 7 card shops recently. That's probably all there is in Winnipeg though, lol.
75% coins. Owner is a good guy. Plans to retire in 5 years.
75% Books
75% Comics/RPG
100% cards but small and limited choices. Owner is friendly though.

<< <i>Remember the very first MTV video, "Video Killed the Radio Star"? Well, Ebay killed the card store stars.
eBay killed the card stores that refused to adapt. Those that have adapted as still here. The same dealer that could only get good book on local stars, and could not sell much of the rest, can get low book across the board with a little effort. Such as Don Mattingly and Dale Murphy...they have no local interest. Using the internet, and eBay, the dealer can make as much or more playing the world market. But keep trying to get $8 for that $10 book card, and we will go to eBay and pay $2.
By the way, that was one of the coolest videos ever...funny how cheesy it looks now.
Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.

Dude, you're right on the money in your posts today, can we be friends?
You're exactly right.
We have 5 cards shops within driving distance of my apartment in Burbank, and ALL have online business as well. Burbank Sportscards being the best example, but Valley Card Shop, Sports Source I and II and Cardboard Legends could close their retail doors and do only online if they wanted. With the exception of Burbank, all are willing to make deals. And Burbank is good for unloading tons of commons that I don't feel like selling individually on sportslots.
