Semi-stupid crack and resub question

This may seem like a stupid question because of the value of the card. I love this card because of the personal memories that go along with the Topps version. Anyway, this card is absolutely worthless in it's current holder. Somehow I completely missed a nice sized wax stain on the front. It is so obvious you can even clearly see it in the scan. When I got the card back I could only laugh at myself for even subbing it that way. Would it be worth it to crack it, do the panythose thing and resub? Am I correct to assume that a PSA 8 (ST) is at least a PSA 9 and probably a 10 if the wax is removed?

T/B is a little off, so probably not a 10.

I would be happy with a 9 just because I would not be tempted to sell it. In a 10 holder I would probably have to sell it.

I would crack it out. Just use one of your spare pantyhose to clean up the front.

Looks like a straight 9 to me.

A stain as a qualifier has nothing to do with the card being a lesser grade. If this card was graded as a 8ST then the grader thought the card was an 8 first but had a stain. Assuming all things are equal, if you crack and remove stain you would expect the card to grade as an 8.

I have found that typically the "base" grade is overgraded when a qualifier is added. At best, you could hope for a PSA 8. The qualifier drops the "base" grade two spots and has NOTHING to do with the "base" grade above it.

In your example, a PSA 8 (ST) is not equal to a PSA 9 if the stain were not there. It is more of a PSA 6 if the qualifier were not applied.

Yup, however that does not mean that the card won't 9 the second time around.

Or 7 for that matter too.

I'm not saying this is the norm, but here's what happened the only time I ever cracked, cleaned, and re-subbed an 8ST.
