Thank you MuckyMutt!!!!! What is your opinion on that card?? It has a $600 opening bid, and it's probably worth closer to $60!?!?!
  • If that card is legit, there's no reason for it to be in that holder.

    I wouldn't touch it for $6

SBC was the forerunner of SGC.

edited to add: I'd gladly pay 6.00 for it.

    Good for you.

Yup, Nothing wrong with that card....

SBC was the first (semi) successful at a TPG outfit for cards. They were totally legit and eventually evolved into what we know today as SGC.

The big question you have to answer is whether or not you feel grading standards have tightened or loosened in the roughly 15 years since SBC was active. My personal feeling is that they have tightened for high-value cards and that yesterday's 88/8 might not be today's NM/MT.

I think it is always reasonable to assume that there
"is a reason" that a card is not in a top-tier holder.

I'd say on this card, it's the diamond cut.

I had an SBC 92 66 Tigers team card. It crossed to PSA 8 (before 8.5 was an option).

It is possible, since this was "one of the first" grading companies, that this card was submitted before PSA and BVG came into play and it has been in someones collection for a while. Although that may just be the treasure hunter instinct coming in.

I thought SBC came after PSA.

With that said, I too did not like the diamond cut on it.

If it was crossed I would think the best it would get is a 7.

    My 6.00 offer still stands.

SBC came before PSA and they are a completely different company from SGC.

If anyone bids the $600 minimum bid, I will be VERY shocked!
