Is this a Paypal scam?

Got an email supposedly from Paypal that I have never seen before. It was sent to my wife's email address which I used last year to make my current eBay ID. I do not believe the email address is in any way linked to Paypal. Yesterday, I received an email saying that a Paypal payment to my wife's email address has not yet been claimed. To claim the payment, click on the link and log in. Is this a scam to get my password or possibly a legit email and the payment was somehow sent to the wrong email address?

    Sounds like it.

All you need to do is log in to your paypal account directly, not through the "strange" link.
If you have something there to be claimed it will show - if not - - - -SCAM

I just clicked on an e-mail link stating that Maria Sharapova will do me if i provide all my ebay, PayPal and bank account information - I hope that one is real but I'm beginning to get suspicious as i haven't heard from Maria yet.

A couple things to remember about PayPal:

PayPal will never ask you for the following personal information in any PayPal email:
    Your full name
    Your password
    Driver's license number
    Social Security number
    Credit and debit card numbers
Pin numbers or bank account numbers

PayPal promises to never email you an attachment or software update to install on your computer. Never install attached software or even open an attached file. It’s not safe – it could be spyware or a virus.

Many phishing emails have links that look valid, but send you to fraudulent sites instead. Here’s what you should do: Open a new browser window, type https://www.paypal.com and log in to your PayPal account directly.
