Buying to resell w/ MSN discount?? Who is?

How many of you are buying to resell w/ the 30% MSN discount? I don't know how to start a poll on here or I would. I haven't bought with the intention to resell but probably will start if the discount stays at 20-30% much longer.

My last three msn purchases were gold bullion. I'am basically reselling them for about the same price I bought them at. I hope to pocket the $600.00 as my profit from the cashback.
  • I have used this a few times, most recently to get my 1951 Bowman Mays rookie that I have been looking for, for quite some time. I just thought of something, and I am not sure if it has been discussed. What is stopping people from buying expensive things from a relative/family member, never really exchenging the money (as it can be returned), and pocketing the discount% 60 days later? I guess it is a matter of ethics, but is there anything microsoft can do against that? It is basically stealing, but I am sure there are people doing it/....

So, has anyone teamed up with someone else to do cooperative cash-back purchases?

e.g. two guys make $666.66 BIN listings, and buy them from each other to get the maximum $200 cash back.. repeat 6 times.

    You'd pay a total of $258 in Ebay fees, but get $1200 back. That's a 465% return on a 60 day investment!

  • That has been discussed before and apperantly no one on here has tried it. I don't see why it wouldn't work.

    << <i>teamed up >>

Why even go that far? You could take one of those rare 1988 Donruss cards you have, list it on ebay under your selling account with a BIN of $666.66 and then purchase the card under your buying account. Never send payment. Or you could send payment by moving the cash from your right pocket to your left pocket. And like digicat said, do this six times and viola! Profit.

Of course, even if you could get past the issue of ethics, there's the issue of fraud to deal with.

Bought a lot of cards for $900, sold some, have my $900 back, + about $200-$250 to go. Plus my $200 in 60 days. Not too bad! Still looking for more stuff to buy and break, but everything with the BIN on ebay is overpriced. Still looking though, have over $1K to spend on one or two items or lots.

That's a whole heck of a lot harder to defend than 2 people working together.

Would it be unethical for me to buy a $666.66 item, then sell it again for $666.66, then buy another item for $666.66, sell it, etc? MS's terms and conditions say that they don't really care what you do with what you buy.

As far as Microsoft's motivation for this whole program... I suspect that they're tracking the sum of all the purchases in order to make Live.com look like a marketing miracle.

MS could claim credit for the $666.66 sales as being through their site.

"$xxx, xxx, xxx worth of sales originated from Live.com. Advertise with us!"

similar to my idea of buying a gift card from Best Buy to get Reward Zone points and then getting back in line and buying another gift card while paying for it with the gift card you just bought and getting more reward zone points - rinse and repeat
