I got my first Ebay neg.

I am not sure what the deal was with this buyer. I sold them my old cell phone (PDA) and I never got an email stating their was a problem. The neg states that they received the phone and it had a cracked screen and it took forever for me to ship. First , if it really had a cracked screen wouldn't you send me a email stating there was a problem. I also shipped it out within 5 days of receiving payment. I was out of town when the auction ended and I returned home on Saturday night. This really steams me. Is there anything I can do to retaliate back.

You could whine about it. Wait, you already did that. In all seriousness, I'm sorry this happened to you. Maybe the buyer wanted you to cancel the hockey box from the group break.
Nope, you have to just bend over and take it and move on.
If he sells, you can always bid on his auctions and do something
in return.

I passed the torch to Mr Swieton. He is a worthy recipient.

That really does not fit in with the new EBAY.

Starting October 20, buyers will be able to further extort sellers by offering to "change"
their FB and DSRs.
"Send me $20 and I will remove the NEG."

eBay Sellers Allowed to Invite Feedback Revision
By Ina Steiner
AuctionBytes.com
October 10, 2008
eBay will begin allowing sellers to invite buyers to change their feedback in a new policy taking effect on October 20, 2008. eBay Australia announced similar news last week. Feedback Revision will enable buyers to change a Feedback rating, comment and Detailed Seller Ratings (DSRs) - but only if they have been invited to do so by the seller involved in the transaction.
While a seller initiates the Feedback revision process, buyers have the option to accept or decline a request. Buyers will have 10 days to respond, and non-response will result in the Feedback remaining. Only one request can be made per transaction.
eBay recommended sellers only send a Feedback Revision request to the buyer once they have addressed the cause for the negative or neutral Feedback to the buyer's satisfaction. They may also send a request if the buyer accidentally left incorrect Feedback.
Sellers will have a limit of 5 requests per 1000 Feedback earned within a 12 month period. According to eBay, sellers receive on average 8 negative Feedbacks per 1000 Feedback earned, "so the 5 per 1000 limit will enable sellers to address the occasional mistake, while at the same time not enable sellers with greater than average negative Feedback to "cleanse their record.""
eBay also said it is improving messaging to buyers when they leave feedback for sellers. In July, eBay began reminding buyers when their transaction was international, and next week, eBay will begin reminding buyers in cases where the seller has offered free shipping on the transaction. Sellers have complained that they receive less than perfect DSR scores on shipping and handling charges, even when they offer free shipping.
eBay said, "Since Feedback is often left days or even weeks after payment is made, providing these reminders should increase the accuracy of buyer Feedback and help ensure sellers who do cross-border business or who offer Free Shipping receive appropriate DSRs for Shipping time and Shipping & Handling cost."

Take a deep breath .... Crap happens that you can't control!
Why waste time thinking about retaliation???
Retaliation only lowers you to their level!
Don't sweat the small stuff!
It's only feedback, not the end of the world!
PoppaJ
p.s. I know negatives hurt the small seller .... and all the blah, blah, blah!!!
but, again ... crap happens!

Truth is I don't think many buyers look at feedback at all. Why else was Bargainland one of Ebays biggest sellers at one time but maintained an 88% Feedback rating?
The obvious might be the phone got damaged in transit and the guy just did not know enough to email you about it. You must understand that some people really do not like the hassle of going through a remedy. Perhaps he also thought you would give him a hard time, so it was just easier to express his frustration in a neg and then move on. He did not want to bother repackaging the phone and mailing to you wondering if he will ever see a refund, much less shipping fees. This is what you need to take into account. People simply view the world around them differently.
The reply that storm proposed is the best way to go because future buyers will see this and understand that you did not even have a chance to make good on it. If you reply with insults, it would be a big turn off for buyers because they will view you as unprofessional.
I always look to buy from 100% sellers because I feel it is least likely something should go wrong. When it came to times when things needed to be remedied, they made sure I did the most minimal work. When I had questions, they responded immediately. Even 99.7% is too low from what I experienced. I had all kinds of problems with those sellers, especially when the item was not as described.

100% means nothing. I recenly bought from 2 different sellers with 100% feedback that i am thinking about leaving less than positives for and both said they do this with many of their customers and it has never been a problem. They invoice you, you send payment than they send you another invoice for more money because they shorted themselves on postage of the item.
In todays Ebay there will soon be NO 100% feedback sellers and the norm will be around 99.0 or less. I have 2 negs from NON-PAYERS, 2 from buyers that never gave me a chance to fix the problem or were unreasonable in that regard like the one where her son apparently dropped the itme from their second story window onto a concrete driveway and the item broke. Got another becauce it took 4 days to recieve the item after the woman paid never mind that she paid on a Saturday night and recieved the item the following Wednesday.
I filed 8 UPIs last night and fully expect to get negs on all of them as well.

With ebay dictating the maximum postage you can charge in some (and probably all eventually) catagories, this will be more common. I'm not defending it though, just pointing out it's probably a consequence of ebay's insane policies.

Starting next week, in the UK, all DVDs/CDs must be shipped FREE. Coming to US, soon.
Cell-Phones will have a maximum shipping-fee that is well below sellers' cost.
That should put an end to auctions for those items. That is EBAY's goal.
............
Folks who think they are BIG enough to withstand the purge that is coming are
in for a surprise. JD's view is that folks with less than 10K listings are "very small"
sellers.
90%+ of payroll expended on CS is devoted to sellers who sell fewer than 1K items
per month. That simply will not work for EBAY any longer.
One soley devoted to collectables could do well.

It seems like CD's/DVD's are high volume business on ebay. Why would they want to end that? Not that they wouldn't continue to make stupid decisions though.
/////////////////////////
They don't want to end it.
They want to end auction-style listings of commodity items.
Such items are welcome as fixed-price listings, with "FREE"
shipping....... on which FVFs can be collected.

Ah, got it. I hatte ebay.
JD is letting it all hang out in The New York Times.
NYT: Got Auctions? Please Leave!
Pull Quote From 7-Page Article In Business Section:
In a series of interviews, Mr. Donahoe acknowledged that eBay, based in San Jose, Calif., didn’t adapt fast enough to shifting e-commerce winds. He now embraces a “turnaround mind-set” and is refocusing its Web marketplace toward shoppers who don’t want to waste time in online auctions.
“There are times when I wish we can close this store and just open a new store, but we can’t,” he said. “We need to make bolder, more aggressive changes to the eBay ecosystem even if they are unpopular.”

On a lighter/related note, JD'soffice called the owner of this site and said, "wasup?"
Since USA robots and Bangladesh folks cannot solve problems, it is supposed that JD
will next try Bangladesh Robots, or some other form of Innovative Disruption.

Between the 35 cent fixed price listing fee, 20% PS discount, and now the double 20% PS discount,
and outstanding sales, especially this month, I have to say .... I'm loving the change too!
