possible BBCE Group Break!!!

Well, it is that time of the month again and I hate to say it but I’ve got the itch again. The itch to rip that is. Everyone make a list of what packs you would be interested in going in on a group break from BBCE.

These are just my suggestions. Let me know what you want, and we can go with the majority vote. All of the prices include our group 10% off discount.

1978 topps baseball- $14.38 per pack
1979 topps baseball- $9.00n per pack
1982 topps baseball- $3.38 per pack
1983 topps baseball- $3.38 per pack
1984 topps football- $11.25 per pack
1981-82 topps basketball- $6.30 per pack
1987-1988 fleer basketball- $28.75 per pack
1981 Golf Donruss-$4.50 per pack
1984-1985 OPC Hockey-$14.07 per pack
1985-86 Topps Hockey- $16.25 per pack

no love for 1987 Topps baseball...
  • To much baseballimage
  • Let me throw in my .02

78 baseball - done twice nothing exciting but clean cards for the most part, no big rookies except one way OC Murray
79 baseball - done twice clean cards only one OC Ozzie from 2 boxes
82 Topps baseball - same as above, Ripken never appeared and a lot of MC cards
83 Topps baseball - one of my favorites but don't see the point of doing them by the pack in group rip
84 Topps football - hit or miss or centering but did yield (2) PSA 9 Elways from one rip
80-81 basketball - 1/3 of cards ruined by game, only about 3 lefit chances per pack for Bird/Magic, nam pulled only decent one last time we did it and it was only a PSA 7
Hockey - Is this still a professional team sport? Tried to do hockey before and no one was interested, ended up cancelling the hockey
87/88 Fleer basketaball and 81 Donruss golf have yielded good results compared to the cost per pack.

1982 or 1983 (baseball) case rip would interest me (per box not per pack). The 1978 or 1979 would be okay, but not the top of my list. I'm not interested in other sports (and non-sports like Hockey) lol j/k

    Up for any of it.

I recently got in an 87/88 Fleer Basketball Wax from BBCE and it had the Jordan sticker on top, so +1 for BBCE not searching packs. Also had the Barkley and Olajuwon in the same pack. Got a 81 Basketball in as well, only got a Jabaar, no Bird or Magic cards.
IT IS ALWAYS CHEAPER TO NOT SELL ON EBAY

    8182 basketball for me.
Looking for Cello packs with Bill Buckner on top

the 87 basketball seems really expensive for what you get. The only card of any value seems to be the 2nd year Jordan. Are there other cards to look for in that year that I am not thinking of right now.

I have no preference, but I usually only do baseball.

I am up for anything.....just please let me know.....I am down....
  • I guess my advice was ignored.

82 and 83 are a waste. I have opened many of these from BBCE and the results were not good. Not to mention with the cost there will be numerous people buying large amounts of packs hoping for one big pull. By big pull I mean a PSA 10 of a total of 4 cards.

Once again, we have tried to do hockey before and very few showed interest. Signup thread was open for almost a week and could not even sellout half a box.

  • The 85-86 Topps Hockey is a good buy. Lemieux RC was a double print and I had a few boxes where I got four of them.

I would deffinetly like to do one box of hockey. I am just unsure which gives more bang for the buck. Which box is going to give you more chances on haveing decent cards to submit for grading. I know the 84 has a whole bunch of nice rookies, and I know the 85 has a shot at pulling the Mario. If someone can help me out with this I will get the ball rolling.

Hockey is great and think that you would have more bang for your buck with the O-Pee-Chee from 84 Rookies include

    Pat LaFontaine
    Cam Neely
    Chris Chelios
    Steve Yzerman
    Tom Barrasso
    Pat Verbeek
    Doug Gilmour

I'm starting to agree with LSU, the 82 & 83 baseball is probably better to do on your own as a box (if anything). Nothing's really screaming at me yet... I'd still buy packs for some ripping fun. I might do either basketball. I dunno man, I'm no help.
  • 1983 Topps is a waste in a rip like this 82 is a little better, but not much

This hockey rip from 2006 looked pretty successful to me.

  • I am not a hockey fan, but I do think that as far as bang the 80s hockey sets can be alot of fun.
  • I would be in for a few packs of 78, 79 and 81 basketball... Let me know..

1984 OpeeChee hockey is a nice variety, but I believe these are fairly expensive and would take a miracle to sell out.

Hockey - Is this still a professional team sport?

well his handle is LSU so you can probably guess where he's from. Hockey may not be popular on these boards or anywhere south of Chicago, but I've had no problems moving hockey cards on eBay. The 4-Sharp-Corners folks have flooded the market with a lot of early 80's hockey though...especially 81-84. Sure you have to get customs forms to fill out since the majority of buyers are up north but there are still a lof of hockey fans in the major northern US cities. Not hard to move hockey in Chicago, Detroit, Boston/New England, NY, Pittsburgh, Philly, Minneapolis etc.
