Will I get a NEG?

Got a question from a ebay buyer 3 days before the auction ended..
They wanted to know how much shipping was to Canada. Here was my reply...

"Payment must be made by International postal money order. I will not accept Paypal anywhere outside of the U.S.
Shipping will be $12.00 to Canada unless you want it sent Express which will cost $35.00. That option is yours. Thank you
Tom "

Auction ended tonight and sent invoince through Ebay with my address and said again International
postal money order.
5 minutes later I get paid though Paypal. I emailed him and told him it was clearly stated in my auction that all international buyers must send postal M/O.

I sent him his Paypal payment back...

Still no word...

I have no problem taking Paypal on lower end items from international buyers.
On higher end stuff, I want Postal money order. If you send A higher end item, you must send it
express with USPS which costs big bucks. The shipping costs alone scare many buyers off.
This shouldnt be a problem with sellers that have great feedback

Sadly, sellers cannot pick/choose which countries they
    will accept PP from.

Gladly, sellers can insist that foreign-buyers pay for the
Express-Mail service --- the only form of delivery that
    protects sellers properly.

    .........

I would simply invoice the buyer for the correct freight
    amount that was previously quoted.

You'll probably get a neg cos there are crazies out there.
    I don't think there's a specific preference for accepting a certain
kind of payment such as no paypal for int'l bidders. It's either
all or nothing. If you're going to go this route, you might as
well only sell within the U.S. and you can set your preference
to block everyone else outside the U.S.

I do have alot of Canadian buyers and never had a problem. I got 2 money orders in
today from Canadians- never an issure sending M/O. The way Ebay has changed things
over the last several months,it has become more of a hassle than anything.
As for people, I just dont understand why they pull this crap...

For some people, it's easier to pay by pushing the button, done.

I don't know who you're dealing with or where, but maybe he'll have to drive 40 miles to pay you.

Why not just block all foriegn bidders... who needs em, eh?

EDIT TO ADD: I guess I'm lucky, I only have to drive 10 miles.

It may be easier, yes, however, the listing clearly shows payment terms. He also knew the terms
in the email 3 days before it ended.

Storm, this wouldnt be a flat rate envelope, this would be a package..cost would be much more

In the past, I have gotten Canadians to pay the freight; agreement before purchase.
BUT, in the current EBAY environment, it would likely be a star-dinging experience.

I know that I lose a BUNCH of money by only shipping to USA, but that's what I do.

    Too bad for eveyone involved.

tsalems1, I didn't mean to sound so rude.

I've been to hell and back trying to get MOs sent out when there just isn't a PO for over 100 miles.

And once, a friend of mine drove 70 miles round trip and broke into my home so I wouldn't get a Unpaid Item Strike. Because I was being threatened by the seller. Turns out, the seller cashed my cheque 8 days before I was put on notice.

Whatever, if it means that much... block us.

  • Yes you can get a neg and Ebay will not do crap about it.

There is a way in Paypal to block international payments, unconfirmed addresses and E-checks it is hidden somewhere in Paypals preferences.

I have all my listings set up to where the buyer must have a Paypal account, a buyer bids tells me he does not have, never has and refuses to open one. I report it to ebay they tell me I am SOL should the buyer decide to neg me.

Your terms are unenforceable as if you accept paypal you must accept it from
    everyone.

<<<<<<It may be easier, yes, however, the listing clearly shows payment terms.>>>>>>>>

To answer your question, yes you could get a neg, will you? That I can't say for sure.

I have a question to those that state the closest Post is 100 miles away.

How do you get mail then? You mean to tell me that the mail carrier drives over 100 miles
    each and every day?

    Steve
    Good for you.
  • I know they can easily drive that far in West Texas to deliver one or 2 pieces of mail. Around Fort Stockton and Marfa long stretches without towns or people for that matter are pretty common.

Steve you can block certain paypal payments. You can block E-checks and payments from unconfirmed addresses according to Ebay rules.

4.3 Use of PayPal on eBay.

Sellers who offer PayPal as a payment method in their eBay listings must follow these requirements:

Accept PayPal if the eBay listing includes PayPal as a payment method.

Accept all PayPal funding sources from a buyer, including but not limited to eCheck and credit cards.

Have a Premier or Business account or be willing to upgrade to a Premier or Business account upon receipt of a payment.

Accept international PayPal transactions if the eBay listing offers shipping outside the US.

Sellers may not charge a surcharge for accepting PayPal as a payment method.

  • There is a link somewhere that allows sellers to block E-checks under Ebay policy, unless they have chaged it in the past couple of months. Ebay has evidently taken that out of the policy it used to say a Seller must accept ALL forms except E-checks.
  • got the auction link ???

    Update:
Got a email back from the buyer and he said no problem and he is sending a MO this week.
He is also sending me a list of more cards he needs. He came accross like there was
no problem with this. I just hope thats the way he still feels when leaving feedback.

It is important - but VERY difficult - to try and remember that
MOST collectible-buyers are totally excellent folks.

"...Whatever, if it means that much... block us."

    ////////////////////////////////////

I hate losing the new foreign sales.

EBAY has made it impossible to work with foreign buyers.

The FB and DSR game is NOT possible for small sellers to
win, if they ship outside of the USA. (Sellers in other countries
are having the same problem shipping to US buyers.)

Mine is NOT an "anti-foreigner" position. It is a position that
EBAY and PayPal has forced on me.

    .........

I have SCORES of Canadian buyers - in MANY categories - that
email me when they are looking for something. I am VERY happy
to deal with them OFF-EBAY. Some have been with me since the
pre-web days of sending stamps "on approval."

Not sure if you were asking me Steve, because I live 10 miles from the post office. And I've made arrangements with them to hold my mail indefinitely, I'll always pick it up whenever I can. Most sellers want payment within a 10 day or so period, and file the no pay bidder thing, and have little sympathy for any excuses.

But until last year, I worked on call at a location that was over 200 miles from the post office. For up to a few weeks at a time. And there has been times when I've bid on cards knowing that I would have to drive a long long way to send a MO. And that's no problem, until it gets lost. Or in my case, the seller never recorded receiving it, and the nearest friend I had that could help lived 35 miles away. And I stress out about these things, so I do what I have to...

    Someone mentioned "hassle" ???

No my question was not directed at you but thanks for replying to it.

I was just wondering because someone mentioned the POST is 100 miles away (maybe it was you)?

And I was wondering does the mailman drive 100 miles or more each day?
