Well my cards finally made it to PSA !! All 875 of them !!

Was scary sending in so many cards at one time. I figured if the post office was ever going to lose a package please don't let it be this one !! I have 11 cards on the 14.00 dollar special and the reamaining 864 cards PSA broke into 2 lots. Cards are mainly all hockey. I think there were 2 or 3 baseball. I went through that collection i purchased and found alot of nice cards that were worthy of sending in. I could have sent in alot more but i figured on some of the sets i would grade anywhere from 5 - 20 cards just so people could see the quality of the set. The 2 nicest sets were the 1971 and 1972 OPC sets. I pulled over 100+ cards from the 1971 and over 200+ cards from the 1972 set.
Anyways wish me luck on the grades !!
Cheers, Steve

  • I may be wrong but I do not suspect there will be a fast turnaround on this one. How long did it take just to fill out the sub form on this? Geesh!! It takes me an hour on 50 cards. Of course I have ADHD and get distrac....OH LOOK!! A SQUIRRELL!!

Wow that is quite a sub! Best of luck!!!!!!!
  • It took 2 days to right everything out. And another day to go through the cards looking for the variations on the PSA registry. Some variations took longer then others to find because they list them as a or b. I'm not expecting a qick turnaround on this one.
Just hoping for all 10's !! NOT !! I sure hope there will be some in this sub. Looking for around 10 percent or higher.
I had them packed well and double boxed it as well. Wonder if they will ship them back in one huge box ? Going to need a skid in that case !! lol

wow big collection you bought any scans of the raw cards?
  • Eventually i'll have some scans. I'm still sorting it into categories and years etc.. Haven't really touched the baseball yet.
Have 1969 Topps then 1972 Topps to 200? with all update sets etc..
Hockey there is some 50's sets some 60's sets complete run of OPC from 1968-??? I got up 1990 and stopped there.
Beckett's i have all the first ones with complete runs in baseball hockey basketball football racing etc... I think there is about 6 missing in the baseball. But i know the first issue is there. All of those are in the plastic sleeves and are mint.
Have tuff stuffs and basically any book that deals with sports cards. Some Charleston's , The hockey yearbooks limited to 5000. Each one is numbered. I believe they came from the hockey hall of fame. I have the first 6 issues.
All kinds of stuff. Some good and some bad. Reprint sets (Parkies) with all the Orr auto's and Howe auto's
Just to much stuff to list.

This might be the first time someone sends in modern cards that come back as vintage!

all kidding aside ... hope your wait isn't too long!

    good luck on your subs,

I like the wall displays, but the pink walls got to goimage
  • gotta like ANY collector who keeps his cards in Beer, Wine, Liquor, AND Diaper boxes.
    what a combo!

  • how much did the sub cost?
  • NugenNugen Posts: 107 ✭✭
Steve what did the collection cost? What percentage of book did you end up paying? I have bought large collection in the past, even the inventory of a store that went under. I am always curious to see what percentage of book people pay on huge buys. Thanks and good luck on your sub!
  • I paid 17,000 for it. Some sets i went high because of the condition. Others i just gave 10 percent. As for grading the 875 cards it was something around 4800.00 with the 2 subs. They did break the big sub into 2 but not at my cost. I got alot of work to do but i enjoy it. That's what matters to me most. If i didn't enjoy doing it i wouldn't be doing it.
I need to find somebody who collects becketts. All sports would be nice. I'm not expecting much for them anyways. I'd rather sell all the becketts tuff stuffs etc... to one person but they have to be close to the Detroit area. Would cost a small fortune to ship. Everything is in there own mylar sleeve and are mint. Eventually i could give a better list of the different issues and books but it takes time. Plus somethings i don't even know what they are. There's even old newspapers when presidents were shot, marriages etc..
The guy wanted 25,000.00 for everything. I got him down to 17,000.00 I spent 2,000.00 more then what i was going to pay. But i found extra sets that i didn't know about so the extra 2,000.00 was justified. Again, it's fun doing this. You come across some sets (weird) that you have never seen or sets or cards you haven't seen in a long time. No matter what they are worth.
