SMR question regarding modern 80's junk

Just got the new SMR in the mail today. While browsing through prices of modern 80's junk, I saw the 1988 Score Rookie/Traded Glossy Roberto Alomar rookie in PSA 10 is only listed at $40. The two reasons I noticed this card out of all the other bazillion cards listed in the magazine are: (1) I just submitted one (2) there are no PSA 10's. Who comes up with the prices? How can they say a rare (by 1980's overproduction terms) rookie card of a borderline HOF'er with a PSA 10 population of zero is only $40? If I happened to get the first 10 on mine, even though it is too OC to even get a straight 9, would potential buyers be turned off by SMR's ridiculous price?

    Prices are always questionable.

    Personally I don't understand how any card printed after 1980 could be worth more than a buck or two.

    You can sat that about any card. It is after all just a piece of carboard.
