Hmm, automatic ebay password reset?

I got up this morning and found an email from Ebay waiting for me...

TKO NOTICE: A28 eBay Password Reset - richlopez Follow Instructions Immediately

Dear richlopez,

It appears the password for your eBay account may have recently become compromised. As a result of this, we have reset your password and secret question.
--------------

Sure enough, Ebay killed my password and this wasn't a spoof email. Anyone ever have this happen to them?

  • Nope. Did the email include your real name as listed on your eBay account? Not your handle. Sure sounds
    like a fake email.
  • forward the email to spoof@ebay.com and wait for a response from them to let you know if it was sent by them or is it a phising type email . If you already changed your ebay password by clickin a link in the email in question then I would go directly to the ebay site and change it again and in a hurry. hope this helps .

The email had my real name, and my ebay username in it. There were no "click here" type links.

As I said, my password on Ebay HAD been disabled.

Upon getting back into Ebay, I found that my account had an Alert on it. That alert was the same message that had been sent to my personal email.

I hope you went to your My Ebay account before you did anything with the Email. I have had similar emails before but I never open them. Anytime I get an email that "LOOKS" like it is from Ebay I don't open it and then go immediately to my Ebay account and check for email there. That is where they send everything. If there is nothing from them there I then delete the spam email.

    BE careful.

  • Someone tried to access your account several times most likely unsuccessfully and your account was locked as a result.
  • I have had this happen to me. I changed my password and all was well. I am not sure what triggered the need to change, but I got the identical email that you got.
  • Lots of BHOs (Browser Helper Objects) hitting the internet lately.

A friend of mine couldn't relist any of his cards due to a BHO pop-up
that addressed him as "dear eBay member" and not his user ID or
    real name.

He's a real dinosaur when it comes to computers anyway, but he is
just one of a great multitude that have fallen prey.

I got the same exact message this morning. TKO.

I wonder.... DigiCat, are you using Google Chrome as your browser?
