Check out this card auction

I just was checking some completed listings for old cards on slebay and came across this Ty Cobb card in a Pro Holder. Before you click on the link below, what do you think about that card selling for $3575 with 42 bids? I know this type of thread is common, but I was really curious. image

  • The price is about right considering the card probably equates to a PSA 7 ...

but, I'd never buy PRO anything for fear of trimming etc.

The seller has never sold anything before and now has a lot of real beauties up for sale ...
    all PRO graded!

Oh well, to each his own.

This seller looks like a trimming SOB with every one of his auctions in a Pro holder. The '62 butchered Mantle he's got makes me sick destroying a card like that.

The 56 Mantle is obscene. image
  • Not to mention the shill bidding.

That's exactly what I was thinking. That being said, where in the hell do those stupid buyers come from? You would think anyone spending that type of money would know of the legitimate grading companies and the chances of that type of card not being authentic or trimmed. Someone should send a message to the winning bidder and tell him to break the card out and submit to PSA or SGC.

  • Buyer is a big spender judging by previous wins. Either has a really good eye or too much money.
  • Assume all PRO graded cards are either trimmed or otherwise fraudulent....stay away.

PSA will not break these cards out of the PSA holder to grade.....something is always wrong with them.

I purchased a whole bunch of 57 topps 25-30 years ago. One was a Campanella - looked pretty nice to me. I sent it off to PSA they said it was trimmed. I had no idea. I posted it on Ebay a few years ago with the disclaimer that PSA would not grade it because it was trimmed - and the people that did most of the bidding were the same guys that are always selling the PRO cards. I terminated the auction.

    ...stay away!!

Even if that T206 Ira Thomas is not trimmed, it is not close to an 8!!
