My WAG is that about 85%+ of casual-sellers have ZERO
clue what kind of stuff is about to go down.

There will be LOTS of shocked folks, on 10-20-08.

Storm, you mean that 85% of small timers don't even realize they won't be able to offer any payment options other than PayPal? It will be a shock then, if they're that uninformed. This policy is going to be the one that buries eBay.

i added AS PER EBAY POLICY,NO CASH,CHECKS,OR MO's AS OF OCT 20th last week to all my auction with bulk editor, ive had so many people ask me why in the past week that im getting really tired of telling the story for ebay because of some morons idea at ebay, they should email everybody on ebay so they will leave me aloneimage

<This policy is going to be the one that buries eBay.>
hopefully somebody with some brains will come along and fix it the way it was, ebay used to be so simple, now you have to have a doctorate in astopsychics to understand what they are even breaking that dont need fixed image

    Rube,

Let us be more cynical than that. You know exactly why ebay is going with this policy. Since Paypal and Ebay have the same ownership group, adopting a no check, cash or money order policy means everyone has to use paypal, hence more money for paypal and the ownership group overall.

Based on what I think I know and am observing, FEW folks are
aware that paper-payments are about to be history.

THOUSANDS of buyers will be emailing sellers, wanting to know
why there is "no money order" option in checkout.

THOUSANDS of sellers will be emailing EBAY, wanting to know why
    their listings are being poofed.

It's going to be FUN to watch.

  • your right it is going to be fun..ha hahere is what i have noticed in the past
there were 2 different psa-1 t205 ZACH WHEATS for sale
item #1 took paypal only $22
item #2 took any payment method $37

and they sold only a week apart from each other...well i think ebay will lose money and there are some large sellers like DSL sports who only deal with money order checks and no paypal who will most likely go away. and they sold almost 10,000 items...

Who were the sellers and what day and time did they end those are big factors in determining the final price. I consistently get as high of a price or higher than average prices since I went Paypal only in July 2007.

DSL has their own merchant account I believe.

I think the policy hurts many of the good sellers that want to accept alternate payment methods but it will hinder the bad sellers. Overall it's probably a fair move by ebay.

I like the move. Paypal is the fastest, most efficient way for both seller and buyer. I recently bought a Mantle card that I didn't realize only took money orders or checks and besides taking forever to finally get here, when it did it wasn't as good as described and I had little recourse. If you can't afford the paypal fees then you probably shouldn't be buying and selling on ebay anyway.

They will still be able to accept other payments they just cannot open communication that they can.

As far as the checkout thing as well as the disconts based on Feedback/DSR both of those are the subject of a couple of pending lawsuits. I read somewhere a group of attorneys is about to start putting together a class action suit on the DSR/Feedback thing very very soon.

As a seller I have only accepted Paypal since July of 2007 and will never buy anything where they don't accept Paypal. As a seller it makes it easier to track and file UPIs as Paypal is really the only way the buyer can prove it. They have also hinted that sellers will soon be able to leave negs again, but only if the transaction was followed through in their checkout system.

i talked to several techogeeks at ebay and some said stuff will not vanish on the 20th,some didnt ,whether they are fibbing or know what they are talking about is another story, ask 5 people, you get 5 diff answersimage lets ask caroljimage
  • The eBay notice on the changes says that things will not go poof till like Jan. 20th for money order and check mentioned in auction. So we are clear till at least after Christmas. Lawsuits may decide many of eBay changes by that time.

  • I doubt there will be lawsuits over the Paypal issue. There were a couple that failed to go anywhere when Ebay made it so if you joined after a certain date you had to accept Paypal in order to sell. The biggest potentional lawsuit Ebay is facing is the DSR/Feedback discount issue. There are several corporate laws they are potentionaly violating with that policy.
