GAI and Vintage..?

Before I get flamed I'd like to state that I did use the search function but could not find anything...so here is my topic:

GAI grading vintage 1930's - 1960's...nothing older nothing newer, Opinions on GAI with this class of cards?

I read a lot about PRO and BVG overlooking trimmed/altered cards and it sounds like PSA/SGC is the top dog..how about GAI?

Would you trust buying a GAI graded vintage card?

Being that GAI can be had for less money it might be a great opportunity to buy for less and crossover.

All Opinions and or bashing welcome..

I have had extremely good luck crossing GAI to SGC. almost 100% crossed...none trimmed or altered. They were all the early labels...most first graded ones. I wouldn't trust the newer ones though.

    2 examples....Dudley received a full grade bump

    Baugh was a even crossover

This one was a GAI 8 came back an SGC 5 hairline crease was missed by GAI

I had a first graded 1955 Spahn old label that i cracked out and PSA returned to me as evid of trimming.

I also had a 1965 topps LL card that was graded a 7 that I would have graded a 5.

The only other GAI card I have is a F. Robby rookie 4.5 that I intend to crack and use in my
    ROY set raw.

That, and all the other horror stories I have heard from other people keep me away from buying GAI
    graded cards.

I am sure many cards are graded properly.

    Good for you.
  • not that you asked about autographs but GAI has many, many, many bad autos out there. mantle, dimaggio, williams, koufax etc. not even close.

I had a GAI 8.5 cracked out and returned a PSA 7. I had a GAI 7 cracked and returned a PSA 5.....GAI is crap. I sent two SGC cards in the case for review when I didn't know any better. They were sweet cards and thought I might get a bump. Danny Fisher talked trash about SGC and said they had overgraded the cards. He said an SGC 6 (1952 Mantle #101) was only a GAI 5. I forgot the 2nd card. Danny Fisher is full of it! SGC is BY FAR a superior grader than GAI!

Great looking Bowman cards, thanks for sharing the crossover story.

Slab this thread into the archives it looks like we have a unanimous decision.

    SGC and PSA.
