Possible mail theft

Between August 27 and September 4, I sold 14 cards on eBay, and sent them out on different days to various locations (NY, FL, IL, CA, etc). At the time, I wasn't using delivery confirmation (my mistake). Also, I was using a shipping service called PostNet to send out the cards via First-class USPS mail. As several of you have pointed out, it's better to go directly to the post office.
Starting a few days ago, I've received 7 e-mails from the buyers of these cards. None of those buyers have received their cards. So far, I've refunded over $100 to buyers. The manager of PostNet is checking into this, but no response yet. I then called the post office, and they suspect mail theft (during the time that PostNet was handling the packages), because it's very unlikely that seven different packages going to different states would all get lost at the same time.

But, all those items - going to different places - deposited at ONE commercial mail receiving agency
does look terribly suspicious.
Another possibility is that MANY buyers are now aware that items w/o DC are "gifts" from PayPal.

The other problem is that my shipping time DSR has dropped from 4.7 to 4.5. Starting on Sept 9, I used the PO only (no more PostNet) and also used DC. The four packages I sent were all successfully delivered within a few days.
<< <i>Thanks, just wondering why you don't trust PostNet. >>
Most likely from reading this post?
Another card did not arrive. It was a 1996 Kobe RC, PSA 9. Total value of refunds is up to $210. One of the buyers suggested that I file a report with the local police.
Every other card I mailed same day showed up and NO reason to think the guy is jerking me around. Bad luck. Sucks

Look at the sequence of any other DC/SC/Insurance ticket-numbers that were
"mailed the same day."
One can very often identify the missing number by entering consecutive numbers
into the USPS search. If you hit the right number, you will see ZIP code info that
should ID the missing package.
It's the PostNet located in Las Vegas, near the intersection of Flamingo and Sandhill. I've gone there for several years, but usually only to mail a letter. When I went to the USPS office today to mail a money order, the clerk told me about the recent complaints about PostNet.
<< <i>I am Paypal only myself, but do not print out postage with paypal, I do it the old fashioned way. Too many stories of packages not being scanned properly. >>
I do the same. I write out the manual slips, head down the post office around the corner and have them scan the items in and give me an itemized receipt.

I don't use Pay Pal postage (but I have thinking about starting). I go to one of the two PO around here with the automated machines (or at least there will only be two in a month or two...they are removing the rest for non-use).
Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.
The card was a 1976 Pete Rose, PSA 8, sold for $44 (including shipping) to a buyer in California on August 29. I brought the package to PostNet on August 30. A couple of weeks ago, I refunded $44 to the buyer because he had not received the card.
Then today, the card was unexpectedly delivered to the buyer. While some eBay buyers would just keep the free card, this buyer was honest and told me that he received the card. He's going to send a check in the mail.
Strange thing is, although I sent the card on August 30, the shipping date on the package is October 3. This means that the card was somewhere in Las Vegas for five weeks before it was finally shipped. I'm planning to call PostNet and the USPS postal inspectors, to see if they have any idea about what happened.

Apparently, when you ship through them, they seem to simply act as a middle-man. If you ship USPS, then some employee will need to take your package to the post office. There lies the potential for problems. It would seem very easy to steal a package and have many excuses to CYA.
Your package can be stolen by USPS employees, but I'd trust them more than some minimum-wage PostNet lackey driving his own car to the post office, probably stopping along the way to get some nice, private time alone to try to figure out what's in all the packages.
"Hey, this feels like one of those graded sportscards! Pete Rose rookie! Jackpot!"
