An Inside Look at the Topps records of compensation to Ball Players

These are actual file cards that the Toppsvault sold that shows how much the players were compensated.

Of interest, is that they also - sometimes - show where the player went in the minor league system.

As you can see - even when establishing themselves, guys like Yount still didn't exactly get a key to the executive washroom or anything like that...

I didn't win this one but did pick up some common players - if someone I really want comes up? I might compete if it doesn't get crazy - the Yount went for over 50 bucks.

If ya notice, in '77 Yount took a blender and a vacuum cleaner - wow!

Here's a card of Harold Woodeshick - I like that they give ya the card and series number - would have to check for accuracy - what I don't understand is how they could assign a series to the Yount cards?

As one can see, they didn't give tons more money in the 70s/80s as opposed to the late 50s, early 60s.

Now in '65, he got an organ! Wonder if he could play Take Me Out to the Ballgame?

Now Pascual took the TV set and then cash - I wonder how they were offered - a catalog vs cash? That would be my guess?

And Johnnie Wyatt Jr. - was gonna take a color TV and opt out for cash - musta needed to make a car payment? HW Swivel Rocker - now we're talking! image

Well, I hope ya find this interesting - tho not ground breaking - a little look inside the Topps card payment compensation to the players - I believe today the average compensation is something in the area of 40+K per player; not considering any "exclusive" deals they made.
