eBay Question

I've been hearing rumors all over the internet about eBay going "PAYPAL ONLY" starting in October, is this true?

That would suck not having the option to pay with money order or cashiers check!

Please let me know.

Comments

  • Mr. Winkle - that is correct.

  • They are not going Paypal only although very close to it. You can use your own merchant account if you have one. You can alos still take Checks or money orders you just will not be able to say so in your listings. If a buyer contacts you and wants to pay with a money order you can do so.

    That is correct.

    With this proviso:

If your "failure to use checkout" rate exceeds about 3%, EBAY will caution
you, ask that you improve the rate, and suspend you if the rate does not
    rise.

In order to help you maintain less than 3% they're working on a feature that will allow you to automatically block buyers with a high percentage of "failure to use checkout" violations. They're also bringing back negatives that sellers can leave, which come with a retaliatory block, in the event a buyer sends you a check or money order. There will also be a 12% paper premium assessed to both the buyer's and seller's accounts when the buyer doesn't use checkout. This will also encourage the seller to leave honest feedback.

sellers are going to need to hire an attorney to review each ebay transaction to make sure it's done properly.
  • Actually if the AG in California has anything to say Ebay is the one who is going to need to hire some more attorneys. There is a California law that was designed for distributers basing discounts on sales and customer comments that made it illegal to do so unless both parties were able to have their side of the story told. Ebay is in essence violating this law with a one sided feedback system that sellers are given discounts and selling priveledges based on.
