Help grading some cards - 1984 USFL

I used to be into football cards as a kid, and collected them from '77 to about '87. Most of the cards I would never consider selling because they have special meaning to me as a kid, but I happen to have 2 sets each of the '84 and '85 USFL cards, and I'm looking at selling a set. I am mostly a coin collector now, so I don't know much about sports cards and the grading system, but I have seen that some USFL key cards that can grade 10 by PSA go for a lot of money. However I'm not sure just what a 10 would be in the realm of card collecting, so I'm hoping you can educate me. Besides selling my USFL cards, I might get into buying some older cards of the players I grew up with, so having some knowledge won't hurt. You could say I'm going through a mid life crisis right now. I have read that the USFL had problems with centering and that the '84's had problems with the back, so could some people shoot me some thoughts on the grade of these cards? I might just submit them if they can grade high enough.

Thank you for your time.

Mainly 8's due to the chipping at best

The Walker I think has an outside at a nine
IT IS ALWAYS CHEAPER TO NOT SELL ON EBAY
  • So, it looks like nothing noteworthy of sending in that would be 10, which is what I figured, but I wanted some other opinions. I would hate to sell a potentially valuable card for normal money.

The Walker would be bumped down due to the slight off center right? The Walker was definitely the best of the bunch but it is ever so slightly off center.

  • its a little difficult with the background carpet,
but look again at the upper corners and edge on the Walker card
  • Under 5x magnification I see what people are saying about the chipping and the corners. Once you look at them under magnification you really start to see the flaws.

Yeah, its kind of hard to tell with the carpet background. I figured an outside shot at a nine on the Walker because it has limited chipping, but if the corners are bad then an 8. Centering I think is still within 10 I think though

  • 3 of the 4 corners look great, but it's one lousy corner that definitely isn't a 10. Thank you for the quick education on grading cards.

I have a Walker 8 and yours looks to have less chipping than mine.
