Would You Trust This From A Potential Buyer?

I am selling a Dice - K card, and i got this email.. the only thing that bothers me is the "no insurance" part.. What do you think

"Hi, I am a Japanese bidder who live in Japan.
And I have 100% positive feedbacks more than 280.
Can I tender to this item?
If I win this auction, can you mail out by airmail?
And how much is the postage by USPS First Class Mail International with no insurance?
I wait for your answer.
My best regards, thanks."

Tell him Paypal mandatory payment and you'll charge exact airmail costs. What's the issue?
  • i just wonder the reason for requesting no insurance. i am not worried about geting paid, but wht about claiming he never got the card.

You could do a safe deal with an international money order.

You could do a pretty safe deal with PayPal, IF:

    1. Buyer has a confirmed PP addy.

    2. You ship USPS EXPRESS-Mail. (The online "tracking" and the signature
features of the service meet PP requirements. The first $100 of
insurance in included in the price. Approximate cost for service
    is $30.00.)

and then he could still file a SNAD with paypal (if he chooses to for whatever reason)
and send you back an empty envelope after he wins his case (which he would)
and keep the card & get a full refund
and its so great that a seller cant leave a negative, and he would still have great feedback (and nobody would think anything of it)
and ebay / paypal wouldnt do anything, because he sent back an empty envelope

    I didnt make this up
    It happens
and it will happen in greater numbers

kinda the Great and improved Ebay / Paypal coming to your town October
when everything is stacked against the seller

    not saying this will happen
but this is the mess that Ebay created

A fake SNAD and an empty-envelope are always
a possibility with any credit-card transaction.

The problem is not unique to PayPal. Though PP
does make it exceptionally easy for the scamsters
    to succeed.

Up until now, as a seller, you were able to prevent that, by not taking pay-enemy
now you are open to anything and everything

I know people will say that you are leaving cash on the table, by not taking paypal
    maybe, maybe not

its a weak market, and I would list items with a "buy it now" price that I wanted
I would risk a low starting price
if someone really wanted it, they would send a Money Order

With all this ... I'm on the sidelines of selling on Ebay

First off, if a buyer is claiming SNAD or INR these days, cheated sellers can't leave a negative feedback. 100% feedback doesn't mean honesty any more.

Also, it's possible that he noticed a pattern where his mail carrier misses scans. Some carriers here blow them off, maybe they do there also. Missed scan + paypal chargeback = Christmas card from you.

USPS recently changed the way foreign registered packages are treated. Maybe other countries are doing the same. Registered Parcels from foreign countries are now treated the same as Signature Confirmation. I don't get mine from a registry clerk any more, they don't get kept in the safe. I don't even have to sign for them.

International postal money order sounds like a safe play. Paypal sounds like a bad idea.

Agree, Paypal here is asking for trouble. Tell him send a international money order. Tell him thats the only way you will tenderize is item.
IT IS ALWAYS CHEAPER TO NOT SELL ON EBAY

Whats he selling, a piece of MEAT ?!
  • I would be concerned about the No Insurance request, I find that odd. I would not sell this guy if I got this message personally. I have my last 6 cards on EBAY and I am done. Only buying via EBAY, will not sell via Ebay any longer.2w
  • That is why I am Paypal only and nothing out of the US

No insurance also means no declared value for customs if there are taxes due going to Japan. The cards are free thanks to Paypal so why pay get stuck paying customs.
  • Personally i'd let him bid........ it was gracious of him to ask beforehand, vs just bidding at the end and then getting the response of the no ins. thingy. The reason he requested no insurance is ~ he's probably just worried about the cost of insurance for an international transaction which could be very expensive vs the cost of the item.

Maybe i'm just lucky ...... but, i've never had any issues whatsoever with International buyers.
  • I think you should let him tenderize you.
