Does "sealed" = unopened

Im looking for a couple of boxes of 1984 donruss but thought this looked suspect.

    "SEALED"
    "UNOPENED"
    "NEVER OPENED"
    "ORIGINAL"
    "WAREHOUSE FIND"
    and my personal favorite ... "CASE FRESH"

    ... should you still believe it ???

    Who knows how many hands, boxes have gone through

    Just imagine the look on a re-sealers face,
    when he just found out he bought a re-realed box,
    in the middle of his opening & re-sealing job

    If my memory serves me correctly the 1984 Donruss wax boxes were not sealed. So in theory anyone could go in and take packs, substitute packs, open and reseal and all the other horror stories that are often told. Not sure if there was patterns to these boxes or not but that was also another ploy used by dishonest sellers. I remember buying a 1984 Topps box once where I receive almost the same cards in every pack...awfully peculiar if you ask me

    By sealed, I always thought it referred to the packs themselves, not the boxes.

    I dont think any boxes themselves were sealed until the late 80's (1989 Upper Deck or something)

    Another Private bidder auction...Seems alot of ebays wax sellers use this format, Wonder why?

    Using the word "SEALED" in the item description of an old wax box is pretty stupid. What is sealed? The packs? Yeah, I hate it when I buy a box and all of the packs are opened already.

    Checking his FB, it is strange that the only private auctions he does are when he sells wax.

    I would say 99% chance of them being resealed and he KNOWS they are resealed
    IT IS ALWAYS CHEAPER TO NOT SELL ON EBAY

    Gary used to sell cellophane wrapped boxes from the 80's. I remember seeing 89 Fleer and 84 Topps. Ugh.

    Yes, but sometimes this happens at the factory and doesn't necessarily mean it's been resealed. Look through Steve's inventory and you will see a few of his packs are this way. Here is a 1977 Star Wars pack that is wrapped in a 1978 Topps Football wrapper.

    Steve wraps a lot of his boxes and puts a slip of paper verifying its authenticity on the bottom of the box.
    IT IS ALWAYS CHEAPER TO NOT SELL ON EBAY

    I don't ever recall 80's boxes being shrink wrapped.


    The first time I noticed it was 89 UD.

    Yep, I have seen BBCE shrink wrapped with a business card on the bottom.


    I doubt Gary's were from BBCE because when I asked him about it he said they came from the factory like that.

    In the last couple years I opened and/or sold several boxes from the early 80's (including '84 Donruss) that I bought brand new, from the wholesaler, back in the years of issue. They defintely did NOT have shrink wrap when new. I think late 80's was the start of that.

    Steve wraps all his boxes in cellophane. The 89 UD were not wrapped in the cases. UD started wrapping the boxes in 1990.

    1989 , 1990, I was close.
    I remember working in a card shop around that time,
    and thats the time that I thought SOME company was doing it
