Easy there Bald Bull. You look like the Bull Charge is coming
  • It's not widely known, but the arcade version of Super Punch Out! featured a guy named "Vodka Drunkenski", which was later changed to Soda Popinski for the Nintendo Mike Tyson's Punch Out! version. In my mind, Vodka Drunkenski is the greatest video game character in the history of the world.

No, it does not. I'm a simple man, with a sense of humor that never really matured past 7th grade.

In the original Punch-Out, besides Vodka Drunkinski, weren't there a couple of other not-so-politically correct things as well??
  • Well first there was Punch Out! and then there was the sequel Super Punch Out! The regular Punch Out had Pizza Pasta, a pretty blatant italian stereotype, but that's about it in terms of anything offensive.

Did Pizza Pasta eventually become Don Flamenco? I'm wowed by this knowledge. i STILL play that game every 6 months or so just to see if I can still beat Tyson.
  • Sure, I could spend my time learning about medicine or the economy, but instead this is the useless crap I fill my head with. I don't believe Pizza Pasta became anybody in the Tyson version. Don Flemenco was basically the Glass Joe of Super Punch Out. Also, there was no King Hippo, but The Canadian Bearhugger instead. Not sure why they made that change- I guess they tried to take Nationality out of the equation.

So then who was the last guy in the arcade version? Was it Mr Dream? Super Macho Man? I remember Mr Dream is what they replaced Tyson with in the Nintendo version after he lost the title and went to jail. I also had the Genesis Buster Douglas boxing game if you can believe that.

I've been subconsciously humming the fight theme song for the past hour or so.

I was in a radio/TV production class in school, and one of our projects was producing a short sketch for radio. We were split into groups of 4 and each group was given a general topic over what the sketch had to be about. Our topic was family gatherings. We wrote a sketch about a family having Thanksgiving dinner. At one point in the sketch, a family member whom no one expected to see showed up and surprised everyone.

When all the family members were shouting and crying when they saw him, I used that 8 second piece of music that's played in Punch-Out when you are about to fight for a title. When we played our projects for the rest of the class to hear, all the guys in class totally freaked out when they heard that song. It was completely random and from out of nowhere.
  • In Punch Out it was Mr. Dream. In Super Punch Out it was Super Macho Man. Once you beat the final guy, you would turn blue and start over with Glass Joe/Don Flamenco and go through the cycle again. I think if you beat it twice the game was over, but not positive about that.

Yeah, you're talking smack now, but how many times did Bald Bull knock your A$$ out before you figured out how to handle the Bull Charge? Remember that dance/taunt thing he did after he knocked you out???

No?? Let me refresh your memory...........

There, now go change your pants!

How about Beer Tapper, being renamed Root Beer Tapper, lame!!
  • Good call stingray. Tapper is another one I'd like to have in my house. The joystick was a beer tap for god's sake! Not to mention you had to serve beer to drunken bar patrons who would kick your ass if you didn't pour fast enough. Great arcade classic.

Can we just change the title of this thread to Video Game Flashback!

And if so, can we start the greatest pre 1992 video game ever discussion right now?

    1 - Tecmo Bowl
2 - Zelda II: The Adventure of Link
    3 - RBI Baseball
  • Piston Honda and Piston Hurricane!

RBI Baseball was awesome as was Tecmo.
  • best 5 home video games pre-1992:

    1- Godzilla (NES)
    2- Burgertime (Intv version)
    3- Utopia (Intv)
    4- Metroid (NES)
    5- Bases Loaded (NES)

It was actually Mr. Sandman who was the champion in the Punch Out arcade game. And he was tough to beat. Lightning fast, strong, punched with both hands....and THOSE YELLOW GLOVES scared you to death!
I am buying and trading for RC's of Wilt Chamberlain, George Mikan, Bill Russell, Oscar Robertson, Jerry West, and Bob Cousy!
Don't waste your time and fees listing on ebay before getting in touch me by PM or at gregmo32@aol.com !

Glass Joe, Piston Hurricane, Bald Bull, Kid Quick, Pizza Pasta and Mr Sandman

They all had a secret to winning

    Joe and Hurrican sucked
Bull - Avoid the charge and whip his arse
Kid Quick - Body Blow him to death
Pizza Pasta - Avoid the upper cut
Mr Sandman - When his gloves flash...MOVE and get three hits on em
IT IS ALWAYS CHEAPER TO NOT SELL ON EBAY
