Where does the sheet cutting STOP!

Made a decision to sell my BGS 9.5 82(Ripkens) 83 (Gwynn, Boggs, Sandberg) and a few other BGS cards last night. I have four cards, that I am debating on whether to sell only because they are newer modern stuff. Should I worry about BGS sheet cutting these cards, and just dump them, or am I overreacting?
1. 2002 Bowman Chrome David Wright AUTO BGS 9.5
2. 2005 Ryan Braun X-Fractor Auto #175/250 BGS 9.5 2-10's and 2-9.5's
3. 1994 Arod SP BGS 9 with 10, 9, 9, 9 subs
4. 1993 Jeter SP BGS 9 with 9.5 9 9.5 9 subs
Thoughts on whther I should sell these four cards and try to replace with PSA cards in PSA 10 and PSA 9 or should I hang onto these four?

Throw up some scans and the people on here should be able to help with any trim jobs on the Arod or Jeter

I wish we could have an open and frank conversation about the entire hobby,
But I dont wish to get banned :-)
I'll say this though.
A few Sheet cut cards in BGS holders isnt the start & the end of anyones hobby problems
You have already listed your BGS cards, so you have already decided
But if I were to guess, you will one day regret selling off your BGS cards,
then again, we've all done things that we later regret
<< <i>So, while neither of those cards are sheet cut, the chances that they were trimmed at some point are probably relatively high. >>
Will the card hobby become the autograph hobby ?
Where as majority of the autos are fake, majority of the cards will be TRIMMED ?
<< <i>Hockyguy, Right now, I am only selling off the cards, I can easliy replace with PSA slabbed cards in the same grade. There are cards, such as a BGS 9.5 Cal Ripken Topps Traded that I am much more torn with. Do I need to worry about Topps Traded cards being sheet cuts? I would find it almost impossible to beleive that there are sheets of 1982 Topps Traded laying around somewhere. Should I worry about this card someday being flooded with BGS 9.5's because someone found a slew of uncut 82 Topps Traded Sheets and is no producing BGS 9.5 sheet cuts? Here is a scan of the Ripken. >>
I was just replying to your title in this thread (the concern for sheet cut cards). It sounded as if you were scared away by BGS/sheet cut cards. Now you are saying that you dont believe sheet cut cards are a wide spread issue (at least not all of them)
I gather that you had 2 different issues, and they got fused into one thread
1, you simply want to convert your Ripkens to PSA , for registery purposes
2, getting rid of the rest of the BGS's due to fear that THEY might be sheet cut

<< <i>I would think that any BGS 9.5 where the surface subgrade is the lowest of all subgrades has a stronger than usual chance of being sheet cut. >>
Not always true....
I was doing a 1988 fleer basketball set in BGS 9.5's and submitted every card myself. out of 50 gem mints all had a 9 for surface but maybe 5 cards.
If you have one print dot the size of this period . your looking at a 9 surface if you have 2 or 3 your looking a 8.5 surface..
While Sheet cut are a problem (for certain issues) does anybody really think If I went and bought a 1997 finest sheet and had it cut, or cut it myself for that matter. I could not get any of the cards in PSA slabs? If you think no It could not happen your fooling yourself...

That's very interesting about the '86 Fleer. Thanks for bringing that up.

I agree that sheet cut cards have probably made it into holders of all of the major grading companies.

How should I cut up this bad boy ?
Should I use up ALL the white borders, and cut all the way to the next card.
Now thems be some borders.

That's a cool piece to own, and seems to be still quite a value with only 2 hours left. I'm sure there are some snakes laying in the weeds waiting for this one.
Didn't all cards come from a sheet at some point in their existence?
<< <i>This question is going to come across as snarky or stupid or both, but I'm compelled to ask it anyway.....

No, that's just a rumor.
Editted to Add: After posting this, I looked at this auction again and noticed that this buyer is from Canada, and certainly has the history of buying uncut sheets! Is this the brother of Andy Tuttle (Consignmints)?

If someone is going through the trouble to cut up sheets of 84 Topps to get Gem MT cards, why aren't they making sure the borders are regular sized? Obviously they have complete control of where the cut is being made. I dont get it.

That is EXACTLY the question I was going to ask. I apologize for not being aware of this issue but what's the big deal? If cards were sheet cut in the year of issue or last year what's the difference? If you like the card, it looks good, grades well, you have the card. I just don't see the problem. Just seems like one more "problem" to worry about. Please enlighten me.

Good question
If money wasnt a factor, it wouldnt even be an issue. But since we live in a slabbed world, and 9.5's & 10's really drive up the prices, everything will be closely examined. Right now, based on slumping prices, majority of collectors say "NO" to suspected sheet cards.
I keep going both ways on this issue. On one hand, the card is authentic (it's NOT a fake itself), and in some cases, its cut better than the ones from the factory (I'm really only referring to Hockey cards). It's hard to pass on a sheet cut card, that has 10's for centering, corners & edges, when you compare it, to a nasty factory cut card. If prices for slabbed cards had not gone nuts, I dont think people would even care.
BUT ... when you see all those Marino & Elway rookies with steroid borders ... yeah, were they THINKING when they cut them ? Thats when bad attention is drawn to these after market cut cards.
Do you really think people started cutting sheet just NOW?
I'm sure there are plenty of these cards in PSA holders too.
I just dont think collectors can truly know what they have anymore
Sometimes I think things were a lot easier back in the 70's when I just worried about getting the card I wanted and I didn't worry about condition at all.

thats about 1/8" to 1/4" of extra card
visually, not appealing when its placed next to another card
want another 10 of these, fresh off the cutting table ?
