Ebay's new fixed price listings

Any idea when Ebay's new fixed price 30 day/.35 cent listings start. I believe it was supposed to start today.

Comments

  • Would be nice if it was.
  • I think it is supposed to start tomorrow 9/16. I have scheduled a number of fixed price listings to begin tomorrow. Does anyone know if all of the fixed price listings will automaticaly be listed for 30 days? I use Vendio and I only had the option to list either 3,5,7 or 10 days. Thanks!!

"Listing fixed price items is more affordable than ever
We understand you have a lot of choices when it comes to selling online. That's why we're changing our pricing to reduce your up-front cost to sell and align with your success. Starting September 16, we are lowering the listing fee for all items sold via the fixed price format to only 35 cents, and a special rate of only 5 cents through the end of the year for Buy It Now™ fixed price listings in the Media categories (Books, Video Games, Music and DVDs/Movies) using pre-filled item information. (See our new Fixed Price fee structure here.) "

Yes, it starts tomorrow - I'm not sure of all the new "rules" as far as listing times, etc., and automatic relisting...but as I'm listing the first one i'll see how the ebay format is setup and take it from there.

It may be a madhouse for awhile, but if something isn't selling, no sense even keeping it there for 35 cents and the basic gallery is 65 cents so really the listing is a dollar if you want to do it right. No sense wasting time and money, and the non-selling crap cluttering up the place should eventually go away...I think?

Storm, correct me if I'm wrong, but the new fixed price format will not give your items the same search exposure as the old format did. It will give more exposure than a store, but less than if the item was auction format.

The "exposure" will be the same for ALL CORE listings.

The BETA of the split-screen, auctions on one-side of the page and BINs on the other,
should be ready to roll soon.

No. Gallery remains "free" along with the first picture. Additional pics will be
    charged at the regular rates.

I use the picture that gets in search, and the subtitle, and that costs an extra 65 cents...to me it's worth it for a "Buy it Now"

I assumed BIN is the same as fixed price. Do the FVF change for fixed price?

I have a few 7-day BIN starting tonight and wonder if it is worth it to wait one more day.

Search exposure now depends on your ebay history, and will also soon depend on whether free shipping is offered.

Yes, i believe it's towards the end of October. If you wanna be a player on ebay, selling more than penny-ante items, you're gonna basically have to take ProPay.

Folks who offer "free shipping" will now get "free" subtitles.

ALL gallery-pics appear in search. The "expando picture" will remain a premium that is charged for.

That's the beauty of "free shipping."

You can add whatever amount you wish to the retail price of your BIN,
and STILL get all of the benefits of offering "free" shipping.

Are sellers allowed to accept credit card only payments outside of Paypal? Is a seller allowed to mention that they prefer credit cards over Paypal? Please explain!!!

Ya gotta understand that ebay is leaning their marketing towards more Fixed Price, Buy-It-Now sales. They've basically, in their minds, have as much of a monopoly on auctions at this point in time as they're going to get...but they have a long way to go to compete against internet players such as Amazon and others. Which is why as stated, if you want to be a player selling on ebay, you're gonna have to sooner or later accept credit cards, not just going the PayPal route because as popular as PayPal is, the vast majority of buyers in the marketplace use a credit card over Paypal. For example how many retail stores take Paypal? - virtually none.

Storm could maybe explain it better than me...but as far as I know ebay will allow credit card payment checkout options other than ProPay, but ProPay seems to be the easiest to apply for. I just began looking at ProPay at their website, so I'm not totally up to speed on everything at ProPay, but I will be come the end of October.
  • Propay is just the processor Paypal uses. Only reason Ebay allows it use is so they can keep the monopoly cries off their back. Their fees are higher than Paypal. Their policies are going to be the same as Paypal.

    I would avoid ProPay.

They are essentially "an arm" of WFC.

WFC is PayPal's primary clearing bank. They issued the merchant-account
    that PayPal "rents" to us.

PP makes money on the ProPay deal. They get a discount from WFC and/or
a piece of the ProPay "annual fee."

ProPay is just there to keep the regulators at bay. It may not work; we'll see.

    ///////////////

COSTCO has the best retail deal on a "real merchant account."

If you have a personal bank, they may be able to help you with an MA,
but COSTCO is usually the cheapest.

In a few months if you offer credit card processing thru your own merchant account it will need to be setup with an internet gateway and tied in with ebay checkout so buyers will either instantly pay you or Paypal when they checkout. If all you do is Ebay the fixed monthly fees for a merchant account and gateway will probably be higher than Propay, so giving up and letting Propay handle your merchant account will probably be cheaper. But since Paypal fees, and I'm sure probably Propay fees too, will vary based on volume at the business level, you're hurting both side's percentages if you split sales between Paypal and merchant accounts. While real credit cards may dominate sales outside of ebay, the typical Ebay buyer is addicted to Paypal. So in the long run for most transactions Ebay and Paypal will get it all.

    Pretty much.

And, for those who don't know, ANY merchant account has the same
kind of chargeback schemes that PayPal does.

The difference is that MOST consumers do not have the guts to deal
directly with their own credit-card company in efforts to defraud sellers.

In a PayPal chargeback, the crook does not have to deal with his own card
company to do the crime. He uses PP as the agent of fraud, and his credit
card company NEVER KNOWS about the crime.

ALL the MA does is make it more difficult - and unlikely - for a fraudulent
    chargeback to take place.

Sellers have a VERY good chance to have a chargeback decided on its
merits, if they have a MA. With PP, their odds are NOT very good.

    update..............

The new pricing structure for Fixed Price listings, as announced by Lorrie on August 20th, goes into effect at midnight Pacific time tonight. -Starting October 1st and through the end of the year, sellers will get a free Subtitle listing upgrade, and eligible PowerSellers will get double their Final Value Fee discounts for items sold with free shipping.

-By October 5th, make sure your first domestic shipping option in your Books, Movies & DVDs, Music and Video Games listings is within the new maximum charges.

-On October 20th, our paperless payments policy will begin, and checks and money orders will no longer be allowed as payment methods.

-Also by late October, you'll need to specify your handling time and return policy in your listings.
