SGC Holder frame insert?

Any concerns surrounding cards holstered by the SGC framing?
I cracked open a SGC slab the other day to find the black insert is a rubbery plastic piece....
With these cards not precisely aligning with each edge of the frame is there risk of damage from the gaps between card and insert? i.e. due to shaking

Other than that..... SGC has the best holders, especially when compared to the off size "floater" PSA garbage slabs, where cards can turn and spin inside the slab banging up sharp corners.
SCG keep my babies snug AND framed.
cheers
<< <i>Amen to that ... my Kellogg's cards are floating around the PSA holders like flies in a soup bowl.

No problem with SCG inserts here. The cases however in general do seem weaker then PSA, which is weaker then BGS. Also, I should note for above....PSA makes Kellogg cases now. Personally, I have no problem with either of the three.
Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.
In a sturdy penny sleeve and then slabbed...
Something about seeing anything in contact with my card...framed or whatever makes me feel uncomfortable...but if you all say that SGC material and design is top notch then I believe...
PSA slabs make me the most nervous as they offer a nice gap for the card to juggle around.
I wasn't asking the question based on off size cards but good point.
I was thinking SGC and 1950's topps cards.

<< <i>I'd hate to say it but don't you think BGS has the safest slab design? >>
Why do you HATE to say it ?
It's a good one
Though the sleeve inside ... it's not too clean looking
just a little to rough cut for my taste
With so much money in the grading industry
you would think PSA & BGS would have slabs designed to fit EVERYTHING OUT there
no card should ever look odd in a case
if they dont have the right case ... dont grade them
BGS = best by far...
PSA = 2nd as long as we're talking a card that will fit in the holder properly.
SGC = worst imo I don't like the black insert with its sometimes jagged edges snug against the edges of my cards and have personally seen cards where the insert has dug into the edges of cards..
<< <i>Just my opinion but as far as slabs go for protection..

I agree about BGS being the best but imo PSA is the worst. I like SGC slabs nice smooth surface and the black insert really looks good

so i'm not sure about something
is the card sealed inside the soft sleeve ?
The sleeve looks like its a 9 pocket page that was cut up
but instead of having the ridge on the sides and bottom
its on the top too
just curious how they do it
i guess i've never really questioned it, til now
anybody crack open a BGS case ?

Yup, very easy case to crack. The card is sealed up in the plastic sleeve so you don't have to worry about killing the card unless of course you're all thumbs.
You will need to cut the card out of the sleeve once you crack the case.

Thats my question
The sleeve is really sealed on all 4 sides ?
How do they do that SAFELY ?
<< <i>To me, BGS putting my card into a soft sleeve is just an unnecessary step that can possibly ruin one of my sharp corners. >>
then how would the card stay in place ?
Its not really a penny sleeve
its harder plastic, like a 9 pocket page
the card slides in easier (I THINK), as I've never cracked one
I'm just curious, how they safely seal the card in the sleeve, at all 4 sides
it seems risky, as its close to the edges of the card

It is not 100% sealed up. There are areas towards the 4 corners that are not sealed. Once you crack the slab and take it out, you will see what I mean.

They don't insert the cards into the sleeve like a "normal penny sleeve"
They place the card between 2 sheets of plastic and seal it, not fully but close they leave the corners open.. Not much risk if you ask me..Have you known anybody to have a cards corners damaged from this? I have not.

I feel the same way. Beckett's slab really does offer the best protection. PSA's case needs some updating and fixing. While I like how SGC's slab looks I also have a few cards where the inset has caused some wear to the edge.
Super Bowl XXVIII: Buffalo Bills vs Dallas Cowboys -

touchdowns earning Super Bowl MVP honors as the Cowboys
defeated the Bills 30-13 to win their second consecutive NFL

If PSA were really a company which cared, they would offer to fix their mistake.
(I'm not holding my breath - just storing my PSA Kellogg's until I can afford to get them to SCG on a special.)
cheers

Good point. I wish all the grading companies would be willing to fix any mistakes that occured during the slabbing process at their cost.
