Home Trading Cards & Memorabilia Forum

Well, I felt like gambling on this card....

Paid about $60 more than a PSA 7 goes for. Got a pretty good vibe. Definitely not a 10, but could be a nice 8 or 8.5.

The aspect ratio (height divided by width) yields the same number as any other card - so probably not trimmed.

I've got a bunch of SGC & BGS cards that I was planning to crossover (in the slabs most likely), so I'll add this one to the list with a M/G of 8.

Interested in your thoughts and/or experience with the blue holdered CSA cards.

My last blue holdered CSA experience was a CSA 9 1962 Topps Cubs Team card that crossed to a PSA 8.

I know the CSA Elite is trim city.

It's a great looking card, and, I know some folks have luck with CSA crossovers, but I'm seeing something on those corners...like a right and left border trim has caused 3 fresh corners. Hope I'm just seeing things. Those CSA blue backgrounds aren't always cut evenly and can cause some optical illusions though.

Man, that's a pretty card. Doesn't look trimmed, but then again, neither does any card that comes back to me trimmed from PSA. Good luck!

The top right corner looks suspicious. Still looks like a nice card, good luck on the x-over.

The blue on the left is definitely a little wavy - so I know exactly what you mean.

I was thinking the top right on the reverse looked trimmed.. but I am thinking it is the blue holder..
very nice card.. hope the back centering doesnt hurt you
  • I hate to point it out but the back looks MC to me. Isn't the baseball with the card # in it supposed to be completely round?

Does that mean you will be sending this card to PSA still in the CSA slab? That's how I read it, but I think you'd have a way better chance by sending it in with some other sharp raw 1962 cards. Maybe crack 2 or 3 of those 7.5's you have, and let Mickey blend right in, instead of the red flag that the CSA holder might send up.

I only have a nickel, so you owe me 3 cents.

Nice card. The reverse right side looks wavy at the top?

I'd do what Nick mentioned too.

    Good luck!

You guys may be right on that corner - the narrowing border on the reverse seems to tell the tale. Really tough to view from the front - these blue sides get in the way.

I hate to state what might be the obvious but in my opinion it depends on who you bought it from - If it was from an established dealer, sorry to say the odds of it not being trimmed might be close to zero. That card is way too nice for any dealer and even most knowledgeable collectors to not have that in a PSA slab when going to sell it.

Maybe you got it from a "babe in the woods" and in that case, good luck because that sure might be a nice very high grade card, but again sorry to say I think it's been doctored a bit.

Would the card come back with the MC qualifier?

Looking at the back of the card it has a black baseball shaped area with the card number in it and cut goes through the baseball.

I don't think so. I think the back is OC, which is a little better then MC I imagine. So assuming there is no problems with the card, it depends on how PSA is with that set. They are little lighter on o/c then I would be in general, and a little more so on the back. I don't think it get a o/c either. It looks 90/10 or better.

    From PSA website:

"A PSA NM-MT 8 is a super high-end card that appears Mint 9 at first glance, but upon closer inspection, the card can exhibit the following: a very slight wax stain on reverse, slightest fraying at one or two corners, a minor printing imperfection, and/or slightly off-white borders. Centering must be approximately 65/35 to 70/30 or better on the front and 90/10 or better on the reverse."
