Poppage reports vs Spam?

In the past, I have been accused (unfairly in my mind) about soliciting onlookers to my auctions on this forum. Spam was the charge. Just out of curiousity, what's the difference between someone directing people's attentions to their auctions or website and the folks that are allowed to broadcast what was just recently graded? Isn't that a solicitation for sales more often than not? I've bought cards off of guys who posted their "poppage" on this forum. Just curious. Don't get me wrong, I like to see guys do well and get good grades. Just seems like a very fine line to me.

I used to like fine lines when I was younger. Now my addiction is just cards.

one is in your face no question spam and one is more subtle, and often times not intended for reselling purposes.

How would you do things differently?

Honestly, (and I think I'm one of the accusers) that's what the Buy/Sell/Trade boards were created for. They were created to Buy, Sell and Trade.

Many of the guys who submit here are submitting for their collection are sharing their poppage results because it's fun for everybody. Kind of like a live pack rip. An offshoot of that can be that the cards are for sale, but the main reason most of us share our submission results is because most of us like seeing what others are submitting and the grades they're getting. At least that's how I see it.
  • I'm not saying that I'd do anything differently. It just seem odd that when I posted a normal question with a tag below it for auctions I was running (as opposed to being in my signature line), people on this board jumped all over me for "spamming" like it was xmas morning. I was just too lazy to figure out how to add it to my signature line. It just seems like certain board memebers froth at the mouth at anything they perceive to be a sales pitch, yet that give high fives to the guys who display their recently graded wares.

I don't see your posts as spam, I just wish you had some vintage on the bay. You've sold some incredible cards in the past year.

    "Molon Labe"

  • I appreciate it. The vintage is pretty much gone. I have late 60's to modern PSA 9s and 10's left at this point.
  • I don't think anyone had a big problem with your sig line. My problem was that it seemed like your sole intention of being here was to sell cards, which again, is what the BST forum is for. If you legitimately took part in topics that you had appropriate responses/questions about, then they were lost in your many attempts to sell cards in the wrong forum.

For the record, an appropriate response to someone asking about pop reports of a Hank Aaron RC is not "I have one for sale on ebay right now" with a link to your auction. If you don't see the difference between this and someone sharing their submission results then I don't know what to tell you.
  • My only question is, what is wrong with Lee? What happened to the short one line smartazz answers? Not sure I can take much more of the philosophical answers that actually make sense.
  • It's still fishing for sales to some extent.
  • I like seeing popage because it lets me see what other people are submitting, how hard they are graded and what they feel is grade worthy vs. ebay post which are only spam to me unless in the bst

I do think there is more lee way to posters who are also an asset to the boards because they post pics, add to discussions, have fun on the boards, etc. IMO If all (not implying you but any poster) you do is come here to post auctions.......go away or at least to the bst.

I will say I see no offense in having a one liner with your auctions in your sig line.
