96/97 Finest Basketball...

Does anyone know if this is a hard set to collect? I found a couple in my collection and was hoping to find some unopened boxes, but they seem few and fair between. Anyone know anything about this stuff? Thanks!

It's pretty common, boxes can be had of either series 1 or 2 for under 75.00 shipped. and the sets not to difficult to put together.

UGH!! My nightmare! What a pain in the butt master set to collect. The Silver and Gold uncommons are horrible. I can guarantee you wouldn't put together a full master set out of a case. Centering can be quirky. You could find a series 1 box with a few Kobe PSA 10's - you never know but they may be all 8's due to centering. Tell you what...if you do decide to do it, I have about 25 Silvers that I can trade you if you come up with any that I need. I still need 24 Silver and Golds to finish my Series 1 and series 2 master set.
  • My wife is trying to figure out what to get me for my birthday. It's slim pickin's around here, so we would probably have to order. So, I'm not sure what I'm going to do. Aren't there mystery refractors in this set too?

Vito, are the silvers and golds that tough?? I had no idea... how many gold or silver are per box? I figured if they were that rare the Kobe gold would fetch a little more..

I opened 4 boxes of each series and like I said, and I was still about 60-70 cards short of a master set. I have traded for about 45 of what I need - but I've been wanting to finish it for like 8 months!

Damn, So 8 boxes total didn't yeild a complete set? Maybe another route would be buying lots or sets off ebay? not as fun of course but may be easier.. I see a series 2 bronze set on ebay for 39.99

Yeah, the bronze sets are easy. Those are completed out of 2-3 boxes or so.

If I remember correctly, the golds are about 1 per box and silvers are 4-6 per box. It's not an easy set to complete. I think there were also hot boxes with every card in the box being a refractor. A friend got a 96 Football hot box.
