I dont think they still have much value today. Back in 91, the Series II set was very popular. Bagwell, Knoblauch, Mo Vaughn among others.

...and don't forget about Series 1 with Nolan Ryan and Dave Stewart in tuxedos...that series was wildly popular back then, too!
  • thanks you

It was one of my favorite sets back then. The football set is good too.
  • I can remember selling copies of the Frank Thomas from series 1 for $20-$30 per at shows. Has it really been about 17 years? Time sure flies..

There are some fun errors and variations in the set, if you are into that sort of thing.

IMO, Stadium Club always had the best action pics.

They're nice looking cards, but not valuable at all.

For today's market, the Thomas still sells strongly...especially PSA 10 copies.

i swear when these things came out in 1991, i got a tip that some were gonna be at Sam's Club on a certain morning, and got my dad to take me and a friend to Sam's to score, we showed up before the store opened and had to wait until the doors opened, along with several other card dealers who were also waiting.. when the doors opened all the dealers started rushing towards the card aisle, so i took off running too, people were wrestling, cases were being busted, and one fat dealer fell on the ground yelling that he lost his glasses.. i climbed up into the racks and was able to pass 3 boxes to my friend.

  • where can i find out what they are worth , they dont seem to be an easy thing to find the prices on

Look at ebay's closed items. That's the best indication of value (and overall interest).

I still have a box of series one - it was going for about 150 bucks back around '92.

Shoulda sold it! Now? Probably worth about 15 bucks?

The Thomas card was white hot back around 1992.

If memory serves - these were the first of the full bleed, UV coated cards - the "shiny" stuff of its time.

I had more fun then - why? Because the hobby was alive - people running around like maniacs chasing all the inserts - the 92F cellos and the 92UD jumbos - those were some fun times. Plus, I had my son by my side.

Yeah, the early-mid 90s was definitely the golden age in my opinion as well.

When every single set is glossy, super premium stock and has super valuable inserts, none of them are really special anymore. You cant really blame the card companies for over producing dozens of sets..they're just trying to make money.

But I really do miss the excitement I used to feel every year, waiting for the new sets to be released. I don't think I'll ever feel that again.
  • I personally miss the mid-80s. Loved walking into any gas station, grocery store or drugstore to buy a few packs. If you happened to find Donruss or Fleer packs, it was like finding gold, at least it was in my area.

Haha! sounds like my area too! Well, we were basically in the same area. I remember only Albertson's grocery store had Fleer..those wax/rack packs. And the only place I could buy Donruss before 1988 was when we went into Houston and visited Toys R Us.

Of course Topps baseball packs were at every gas station on every corner.
