Home Trading Cards & Memorabilia Forum

Sorry bout' the OT ?.......

My home owners insurance includes a clause which covers xxx amount of $ for collectibles and antiques. My question is, do you think it would be a good idea to have pictures to prove my inventory. Has anybody else done this? It scares me to think that all of the years of card collecting could be ruined in a fire or something along those lines. Just curious to see how other members protect their investment!

  • I have a rider on my policy to protect my collectibles. I did take pictures of anything more than 100 bucks in value. Then I took the memory stick and placed it in my safetly deposit box. No reason for that to be lost in the fire too.
  • Yes, take pix and complete an exhaustive inventory, which includes price paid, condition, etc. Depending on how much dough we're talking about, you may want to have a friend look at everything on the inventory to confirm that it's there. Finally, I'd send a copy of the inventory to the insurance company with a letter: "here's a list of what's in my collection which I believe is covered by the insurance. If I'm wrong about this, please let me know ASAP."

That is something very good to do, but that sure would take a looooong time to catalog and photograph all of that stuff.

Thanks for the suggestions guys! I guess that taking pics of the important stuff is a small price to pay. Ill probably just inventory cards worth $100 or more like merc said. I doubt that the cards will perish in a fire anyhow. After the wife, kids and dog are evacuated from the house, I'll go back in and rescue them!!image

Make the wife and kids carry them on the way out.
