This was a 25 dollar card 2 weeks ago.. Wish I had grabbed a few..

    Ah yes, hindsight, the bane of collectors. The hindsight alone from my short life would net me a ton of Ripken, Griffey, and A-Rod rookies, not to mention a metric ton of Nolan Ryan cards from the 70's I would've bought for $2-5 apiece.

    Two weeks ago, that Phelps was $20-$30 on hype and hope.

    The Olympics come and he's knocking down records and racking golds like Fort Knox.... that cards goes up hundreds.

    But what if his Olympics had gone like Katie Hoff's... or the US women's gymnastics team?

    Obviously, it didn't, so we're all going "oof!" in hindsight.

    I guess what I'm saying is, somewhere out there is the guy that bought 100lbs of Katie Hoff goods.
    Nolan Ryan & Edgar Martinez are my favorite players...

    I don't know... if I had one I would be awfully tempted to hold onto it in the hopes he breaks Mark Spitz's record and the frenzy peaks... $1000... more? Sounds incredible, but I would never guess this would move at $500 either.

    As the person who beat total medal counts of the previous all-time medal holders of Carl Lewis and Mark Spitz, I think this card will hold some value for a lot longer than some might think in this discussion. By the way, anyone recognize those names: Lewis and Spitz? Their names seem to have hung around for a while. Anyone that was alive when Spitz won those 7 golds in one olympics can still envision that poster that showed him wearing all 7 medals.

    I do have a Misty May Treanor auto I got as a TTM last year.

    Its a sticker auto for crying out loud, people will buy anything when somebody is hot without thinking. Little do they know that card will probably drop to less than a 100 bucks if he comes out with an on-card with a piece of something on it.

    Isen't cards like everything else in this world? How do you explain when people buy a $300 pair of sneakers that they can buy a few months later for $75 to $100 image Just just love something or someone when there hot and buy blindly not thinking about how fast its going to drop.

    But I guess as long as there are people like that out there in the world that many people can continue to make money off them.

    Thats what it sounds like to me.. Well if it will make you feel better go to Wal-Mart and find the Barbie Elvis & Priscilla set for 59.96 and put it on Ebay it will sell for 100.00

    Yeah, if anyone is smart, they will be selling now. I would be willing to say the same card can be had for less than half the going rate at this time next year. Sell! sell! sell!

    Although not a Phelps card, I am taking advantage of the Olympic spotlight selling an 2007 A&G Misty May-Traenor auto.
    It has topped $100. The boost from the gold medal always helps.

    PS..If I had a Phelps I am not sure I would sell since as stated earlier he did set the all-time record with 8 golds. Hard to match, let alone surpass.

    There won't be buzz like this for another 4 years and what if by then he isn't the best anymore? Big risk if you ask me.

    I disagree. I would hold onto those cards and wait for them to skyrocket even more. America has caught Olympic fever!!!

    When do the Olympics start this year anyway?
