Looks like the cat helped with that scan. Cats are the finest of people.

Those black marks are often seen. I recall them well from fresh packs.

BUT, I have no absolute recall about what they are.

I have seen the mark in no Q holders.

  • I had one similar to that on the back of a 76' Payton that was graded a PSA 8 with no qualifier. Not sure if that's the norm.
  • Looks the same as the one on the front of this Ryan card. It isn't wax or gum. Card was in the middle of the pack and the only one with this spot. Spot is next to Ryan's left shoulder. Still going to submit it one of these days and see what happens.

Dots and marks like these are going to be factored into the card grade just like anything else when it comes to third party grading....however the hell that particular grader wants to at that particular moment. We've all seen 10s with little mystery marks, and we've all seen 8s with absolutely nothing wrong with them. It's the human factor.

    Very nice 79 Ryan btw.
  • I've seen cards with the exact same type and size of stain get the (ST).

Yep, cats and dogs are better people than most people.

I can see it getting a (CH) qualifier... (Cat Hair)

I agree with you, cats are better than most people. image
  • Actually dalmation fur.

    Thanks for the input.

I'll send it in for grading - the card, not the dalmation fur - and see what happens.

You could submit the fur to Topps and they can use it for next years A & G set.
