My rip thread (thus far: '85 Fleer, '08 Goudey, '79 Topps). More to come!

I have a lot of unopened material to rip. Just wanted to share as I went along. image I'll be posting all of it in this thread.

First up are two blasters of '08 Goudey. I know almost nothing about these....just looked cool to me, so I bought two. image I passed up A&G blasters to buy these. (I may have to go back later LOL).
One quick note: The text on the back of the cards are markedly darker on a couple of cards I got. Is that just print variation, or is it something to look for. It was a Ripken base card, and something else.

    Second blaster yielded these:

The series is really nice, and while I'm not really into new cards, this series and the A&G are just really nice all the way around (even the base cards) in my opinion. image I guess this rip wasn't that good, but I still love the set.

I got several of those Yankees tribute cards (one of them featuring Reggie Jackson), and two Presidents as well. I just didn't think they were a big deal.

    Thanks. image

Do you know anything about the Ripken card having dark black text on the back (the base '08 Goudey) instead of the greenish looking text? Is that just a random thing, or is that something to look for. There are so many things I miss in modern sets (A&G NNO, etc), so I have to try to keep up to date.

Next up is an '85 Fleer Rack pack. Ripping now, scans coming in a few minutes......

  • Only modern stuff I buy are Topps and Bowman chrome. Got suckered into the A&G last week and now I am hooked after pulling the Jenner auto from a blaster box.

The '85 Fleer Rack didn't give me too much, but the Gwynn is pretty gorgeous. I'll take it.

I just pulled a decently centered Ozzie Smith rookie from the '79 Rack (1st blister). It's reasonably well-centered but it's DINGED. Good Lord, i'm so pissed off. ONLY CARD that's like that so far.

  • Scans now! I need to go to bed but have waited up for this thread.

Yes, that's a ding on the Ozzie. ONLY CARD IN THE RACK with a ding on it. Unbelievable. Other than that, I thought it looked really nice.

Tough break on the Smith ding, but a great pull nevertheless. That's a super tough card to find centered, too. Without the ding, I'd say you'd have an 8. I'd keep it raw as is.

Yeah, I don't have much of a choice. Several of the commons though (including the ones I scanned) were pretty nice. The Kravec card is GORGEOUS (although the scan was cut off at the bottom...so you can't see it). Perfect color too.

I pulled a reasonably nice Red Sox team card too, and though it's off centered, it's still got good eye appeal to me. Didn't scan it though.

Still debating about ripping the '78. The centering looks a little off, so I'm wondering if I should just keep it as is or not....??
