Which Case?

I haven't bought new cards in years, but I'm thinking about buying a case of modern baseball to 1) take advantage of the Microsoft Live discount and 2) have fun with my son opening, completing a set, and finding some potentially good autos/inserts. Since the maximum discount is $250, my limit is $1000.

I'm leaning toward 2008 Upper Deck Goudey, but for no good reason. Let's hear some other ideas.

Thanks,
JT

I'd go with a case of Bowman Chrome Draft.

I usually open a case a year, and set everything aside for a couple years. As misc. rookies start exploding, it's amazing what you can get back out of it.

ALWAYS Looking for Chris Sabo cards!

I completely agree! Look at the hottest RCs out there over the past 2-3 yrs. They're almost always out of those sets.

    They are the same thing
  • I know there is Bowman Draft (which has 2 chrome per pack) and Bowman Chrome. I thought maybe they were coming out with a Bowman Chrome Draft. To help counter Razor?

  • If you want your son to know who anyone is in the set you're putting together with him, don't go with Bowman Draft.

I second the A&G rip... boxes are fun to open with a lot of different hits. Your son might even learn some history from the famous persons cards!

one vote for Goudey...I ripped a couple boxes and it was fun. A&G is overrated, in my opinion.

I'll second the Goudey choice, I was underwhelmed by A&G. To me ripping anything is fun, Topps chrome are a fun rip.

    Any opinions on this????

2008 Just Minors Mystery Jerseys Baseball Hobby 6 Box Case

Configuration: 6 boxes per case. 1 autographed jersey + 2 random 2007 autographed cards per box.

In an effort to exceed all expectations, and after tremendous amount of work and preparation, the highly anticipated release of Mystery Jerseys 2008 is nearly here. As has become the norm with our popular "Mystery" line-up, Mystery Jerseys 2008 packs a tremendous punch! Each box of Mystery Jerseys 2008 contains 1 autographed jersey (not a jersey card, but an actual jersey) and 2 autograph cards. Also look for game-used jerseys (again, not cards, but actual game-used jerseys) to be inserted 1 per 60 boxes!!

Each box of Mystery Jerseys 2008 will contain:
    - 1 Autographed Jersey - Highlighted players include some of today's brightest prospects: Jay Bruce (JMI Exclusive), Billy Butler (JMI Exclusive), Evan Longoria, Carlos Gonzalez, Andrew McCutchen, Fernando Martinez, Colby Rasmus, David Price, Jason Heyward, Jose Tabata, and others.

    - 2 Autograph Cards - From any of the Just Minors products.

Each master case will contain the following:
    - 1 Glossy 1 of 1 autograph card: These rare 1 of 1 cards are randomly inserted into boxes at a rate of 1 per 6 boxes (1 guaranteed in each master carton).

    - 1 Dual or Triple Signature Card: These autograph cards are signed by 2 or 3 top prospects respectively and are randomly inserted into boxes at a rate of 1 per 6 boxes. Gold version is serial-numbered to 10 and Silver version is serial-numbered to 25 (1 guaranteed in each master carton).

    Also look for randomly inserted:
    - Game-Used Jerseys - An authentic game-used jersey will be randomly inserted into boxes at a rate of 1 per 60 boxes. These are actual jerseys, not jersey cards or jerseys cut up in any way!!

    - Hall of Fame Autographed Jersey - 1 Ted Williams Autographed Jersey (Green Diamond Authentication) will be randomly inserted into the entire production run!!

Bowman Chrome Draft is the only draft product and it comes w/ 2 chrome per pack. Bowman has a regular version and a chrome version, but draft is one in the same.

I'll throw out a vote for 2008 UD Piece of History. It's relatively cheap, you get 4 hits per box (including one Hollywood memoribilia), and the set includes 50 world history cards.

    ??

    When buying boxes there is...

    Bowman
    Bowman Draft
    Bowman Chrome

In the BDP you can get Chrome. But I've never heard anyone call BDP, BCDP unless it's singles. Not for boxes though.

I think were saying the same thing. I was just saying I thought BDP was coming out with a full chrome version.

It really depends on what you collect, chrome and stuff like Ginter and Goudey are different things. The Goudey auto checklist is much
improved from last year, but at one per box and many doubles, you are banking on one maybe two cards the entire case. The base
set is almost worthless. Ginter is a much better configuration. Probably two rip cards, one minimum..those are 50.00+ sales just there.
You might get 5 autos worth 10 bucks each, you might get one that books 150-300. There are also big hits like wood 1/1's and plate
that do well. Goudey has none of that...the occasional parallel sports royality (they are popular).

Chrome is all about the rookies. Lincecum in 07 chrome and LaPorta in Draft. The Parallels are great if you can land rookies and not
vets. probably cheaper too....but you must be willing to sit and wait.

  • I agree with Goot. If you are trying to get your son into baseball cards, do not get anything from Bowman. The few big hits you get will be prospects neither you nor your son have heard of. It will be at least a year or two before the value is realized.
