How Long Can This Resealer Last...

Without getting NARU'd or locked up like PAoutdoorsman in PA? He continues to list very poorly and very obviously resealed vintgae wax packs that are not even CLOSE to being remotely authentic. It's a real shame that collectors actually bid on this garbage, though he has gotten his share of negs (though not nearly as many as you'd expect).

  • Well look at Gary he is still going strong on Ebay.

Getting criminal charges on something like that is a longshot. As long as the complaints to Ebay are kept low and the seller pays Ebay there is not much Ebay will do either.
  • Check his feedback. I was the one that sniped his 1971 Topps wax box. His user ID that he buys commons and wrappers is pastoney. He never filed a NPB when I sent him an email saying I knew his other ID.

Another PA scamster that should be in prison.

99%+ of EBAY buyers have ZERO idea of how to tell if the packs are legit.
Thus, relatively few NEGs are left, and the SCAM continues.

Makes me sick that he can get away with this crap. I am thinking about bidding on a few and not paying and negging him. Has anyone actually contacted eBay with his other account info and having them investigate him? I know there is like a 5% chance they do something but it might be worth getting his accounts openly linked in eBays systems.

Being that I am pretty new to buying and opening vintage packs can someone point me in the direction of a good site for info on how to protect myself from resealed packs? Like a good FAQ on what to watch out for?
  • Since I left my feedback for the 1971 box, I have had about 20 eBay users email me asking for his other ID. A few have said they are going to win a few auctions and not pay but leave a neg.

Right now I would advise against buying just to neg him. Ebay is cracking down on that you may wake up and find ALL your Ebay accounts suspended.

Check my feedback on my other ID. You can find it by finding his last neg. Check my feedback left. I have not had any problems with not paying. Yet, most of the users I left negs for have been NARU'd.
  • The past week or so Ebay has been suspending buyers for just that. Not worth the risk. Just report, and keep reporting if enough people do so Ebay will get the message.

Those others may not have been able to or known how to report you all it would take is one scammer to know how to follow-thru and thats it. If the seller here files the UPI and you respond wrong the entire neg can be removed as well.

This dirtbag deserves to be locked up or at least a good beating. Hopefully, karma will inflict some severe form of punishment on him. image

  • Trying to determine whether a wax pak is untampared with is from my experience a matter of 3 steps. Step 1: visually inspect all four corner folds on the reverse of the wrapper. The folds must be pulled tight with no slack as in a tightly wrapped Christmas package. If this is the case then go to Step 2: visually look for the two large horizontal depressions "roller lines" running across the pak. These are the depressions left from the top and bottom ends of the roller as it passed over the reverse of the pak during the sealing process. These lines are typically 3 1/2 inches apart. If these are visible then go to the most important step 3: grab a magnifying glass, tilt the reverse of the pak against the light and look for the dozens of minute, barely visible horizontal lines that were also left by the roller as it crossed over the reverse of the pak. The surface of the roller contains many of these small lines (the grain) and they will leave a mirrored impression of these lines in the hot soft wax when it was sealed. The lines will be perfectly aligned as they cross over the two main vertical flaps on the reverse. Where the two flaps meet these lines will be broken but still perfectly aligned on each flap. Look very closely and if the lines you can see don't align exactly on each side of the break and are off-set (even a little) then the pak has been resealed. If they match up perfectly then you in all probability have an untampared with pak.
I say all this because step 1 is the easiest and first thing to look at. All these bad paks referred to by Grote15 don't even come close to passing step 1. The reverse folds are loose and sloppy. I'm doing this as an educational tool for any novice pak collectors out there. I don't recommend buying any raw vintage (wax) paks on ebay but if you still desire to purchase a raw pak based soley on a picture then (at the very least) make sure the pak passes step 1. Then once you have the pak in your hands you can check steps 2 & 3.

Just another example of Ron White's famous saying .... "You Can't Fix Stupid".

I'm almost to the point where I'm starting to root for the bad guys.

Call it naive or what you want, but these sellers aren't even clever .... people are just plain stupid!

And no, you don't have to be an Einstein to see that this particular seller's feedback rating is crap, or that his bidder's names are private .... it's all there in plain view. He even says to ask questions BEFORE bidding 'cause he won't answer them AFTER.

Sorry guys .... I just had to vent!

  • Maybe its not all collector's bidding and maybe most bids are his friends bidding it up?

I see he also has it private listing, lol.

  • Private listings mean very little anymore since Ebay now masks the winning bidder anyway. This is not one of them but there are alot of times a private listing will attract more bidders and the closer and closer we get to Christmas the more we will see.

You can see the identity of the winning bidder at the conclusion of the auction, though not during the auction.

My guess is Gary was banned from eBay hence listing under his moms, girlfriends or wifes username. If someone wanted to get him booted, I would let eBay know he is back under an alias via the help of an accomplice. To assist, you would need his old email addresses, home address and phone #s and prove he is the same person. Good luck!

This seller has no connection with Gary. He is in PA.

All I can say is if after this thread you think they are still legit you deserve to be scammed.
  • He does have many positive feedbacks, so some of them gotta be sealed, no?

I think opinions are just that, opinions.

  • Yeah, but if you have a sore arm and ask you mechanic what's wrong with it and he says it might be the elbow, that's his opinion. If you ask your nephew who went to med school and he says it might be the radial nerve, that's his educated opinion.

He/she has had numerous unknowing or just ignorant buyers. The ones that got the packs and knew they were resealed, left him negative feedback. Are you foolish enough to think that he would sell resealed vintage packs and but yet still sell unopened authentic packs too?

Edit: BTW, if you want to check his ID he uses to buy wrappers and commons it is pastoney on eBay.

Could be, it is doubtful that he would ever see a day in jail even when found guilty and sentenced to a jail term. There are convicted murderers walking among us that never saw any jail time. Most that are found guilty of these type crimes can be given a commuted jail sentence that will allow them to remain free as long as they make their required restitution payments.

Is there a way to educate everyone? One of you guys could write a really good post on how to recognize fraud and we could work on getting it linked to by some other coin forums so it ranks higher in search.

Ebay is cracking down on that big time they are finally tracking IP addresses as ways to determine identity. If you create a bogus account and it gets NARU'ed expect all your others to be NARU'ed as well. Plus all the feedback you left would be removed and he would be back to square one.

Its so bad if you log into Ebay from another computer Ebay will sometimes give you an automated call to verify your identity.
  • His auction reads...

<< <i>PLEASE READ MY TERMS AND CONDITIONS: Returns or refunds are offered (minus shipping), no questions asked within 3 days of receipt of item and that the item is returned in exact condition as sent. After that, all sales final. Items are all sent delivery confirmation. Shipping and handling is 6.00 per item, discounts apply if multiple items won and paid for at the same time. If you have any questions, ask them BEFORE the end of auction. Do not ask once item is won. >>

What if someone bought a pack of cards and after receiving the cards found out the pack was resealed. If the winner of the auction tied to return the pack. Gary would just say that the pack was resealed by the winner of the auction. How will the winner of the auction prove the pack came searched/resealed? How do you prove you didn't search the pack when you try to get a refund?

I think it would be funny to send the pack back with 100% trimmed cards. Keep the cards that came with the pack as a way to cover the loss.
Then of course neg the bum!image

    ...another PA resealer ID
  • I was thinking of buying one and ask if I can do local pickup (since I am in Central PA)... Prob is I don't know what Gary looks like to ensure they are the same person....
