I'm not excited but I will root for them.

I may watch some. I don't know yet.
  • I'll watch a few basketball games during the season, but that's about it. I'll root for the USA team of course, but won't watch them.

I'm anxious to see how some of the young guns (Deron Williams and Chris Paul) fare against international competition.

The Olympics aren't as intriguing as they once were to me. Basketball included.
  • Nope, does not interest me at all. I will be watching soccer and cheering for Ivory Coast because US will be eliminated before I can sit down with my chips and dip

I'll be watching soccer, as well. And basketball. And well..... everything. I like watching volleyball, as well.

Aragorn, you're displaying typical American ignorance towards soccer. Top to bottom, the talent in the USA is as good as anywhere in the world, in this age group (U-23) And there probably isn't a better goalkeeper in the tournament than Brad Guzan.

    Nice try.

The US will advance as far as their defense allows them to.

  • I might watch it if I get bored. I'm not really into it, but I will be rooting for them.

Well yes we always have the talent but where does that get us? Last World Cup, yeah maybe we got cheated by the stupid Italians but we got embarrassed by the Czechs and Ghana?!?!?! Don't get me wrong I will be rooting for them because my Germans are not playing but I do not have high hopes for them

Edit to add: You cannot go wrong with Ivory Coast I mean they are fast, talented and they stoppped a civil war to cheer their team on during the World Cup.

You have to look at talent, age respective.

At the youth levels, our talent is as good as any, and getting better.

At the "all age" level..... Well, the last WC showed where we are across ALL age groups.

Let me think of the PC way to say this:

As soccer players begin to better represent this country's REAL diversity, the stronger the national team will become.

Drive past your city's soccer fields.... it's starting to happen now.

I consider myself a huge NBA fan, and I could not possibly care less about basketball at the Olympics, or anything else Olympic related for that matter. I'm just waiting for the end of October.

funny, I consider myself a huge NBA fan and I think the olympics are MORE important than any nba season. I mean this is our whole country's pride at stake here, not just jazz fans or pistons fans or heat fans. this is everyone pulling together for the common goal, and that gets me fired up!

I am anxiously awaiting the games. I have been a big NBA fan since the late 70's and I have seen just about every international competition since 1984. It will be a tall order for us to win over there. The bad thing is that once tournament play starts you are one and done. Anything can happen with this scenario. Greece, Spain, and Argentina will be the stiffest competition. They all play great team basketball. Spain won the 2006 World Championship and Paul Gasol was the greatest player in the world at that time. They won the championship over a Greece team that beat us 101-95 with Gasol out with a broken foot. Olympic basketball is a totally different game than the NBA. There is no post up offense since the lane is so wide. You can take the ball off the rim without the goaltending call which Dwight Howard is getting very good at. Think Princeton offense against more talented players who offensively are basically winging it. Now cut the game to 40 minutes instead of 48. Add to that the one and done tournament and you will see that it will be hard for us to win. With all that said, I do think we will prevail. We will need a lot of breaks down the stretch and we can't have a bad game.
