Nice pre war set

1969 Globe Imports Playing Cards
Largely ignored by collectors for more than 35 years, this issue has little to offer any but the most avid superstar collector. Printed in black-and-white on very thin white cardboard, either with blank backs or with red-and-white checkerboard patterned backs, the cards measure 1-5/8" x 2-1/4". Muddy player action photos are at center of each card, with the player's name reversed out of a black strip at the bottom. It is likely this set was issued over a period of more than one year. The plain-back version was probably issued first, and has photos which include cap and jersey logos. The checked-back version seems to have been a later issue with many of the cards showing uniform logos airbrushed away. The photo quality of the checked-back cards is also much poorer than the plain-backs. A few players were substituted between the issues. - 2007 Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards, 16th Edition.

Interesting. I'd love to see some scans and/or a checklist.

But I have to ask, which pre-war are you referring to in the subject? The Persian Gulf?

This review is weaksauce. First, they are NOT cards they are printed on cheap paper. There were 2 known versions with and without Mantle The Mantle was supposedly in the First printing. The "set" of cards are shrinkwraped and may have been printed in Japan or Brooklyn. The reason I say Brooklyn is These were sold in hobby mags back in the 70's by New York importers...get it ? Globe imports is what PSA grades them as. What do you have to add? P.S. sorry for posting on topic. image

I'd put pre war prior to Dec 7, 1941. Pre '45 would be during war (and that would leave you with Centennials' and fugly MP &P's)
