What would you pay for a Joe Namath PSA 8 Rookie?

I have the chance to pick one up. Not sure what the going rate is, but I am thinking it is a heckuva deal, but I am looking for opinions here on what the market value is.

  • Well, since you're supposed to buy the card, not the holder, it would depend on the quality of the card.

Any chance you can provide a scan?

Also, are you buying it for your collection, or to try and flip for a profit?

for my collection. I do not have a scan. I am going to meet with the dealer about it. It is an absolute beauty though.

  • Average PSA 8 would be $5,400, this is one of my favorite cards and I highly doubt I will ever have the chance to own a PSA 8.

Good luck and I hope a deal works out for you.

We recently sold a nicely centered 65 Namath for $6200.

All depends on the centering from my past experience with this particular card especially!

    Good luck!

  • Then I guess it depends on the price the dealer is asking.

The price difference between a PSA 8 and a PSA 7 is about $3000, so I'd be asking myself if I really have to have an 8 or whether or not I could be happy with a nice 7.

Personally, I'd take a very clean, untilted and well centered PSA 7 over an average looking PSA 8. The reasons are two-fold. First, the slim borders make even 55/45 centering unappealing. Second, the price differential between the two grades is very significant.

A very nicely centered PSA 7 will run probably run you less than $2500 while a very nice PSA 8 may cost over $6000. That's a pretty steep premium for such a small differential in physical appearance and presentation.

A really nice PSA 6, on the other hand, should run around $1000 or less and while it may not compare to the PSA 8, it could make an adequate addition to most sets.

thanks for the input guys. I met with him and we could not come close to a deal. I did see a nice PSA 6 at the show I attended today as well, but the guy wanted way too much for it.

  • I think you can find some real nice PSA 6's for $1,000, saving $4,400 compared to a PSA 8 cost..

  • That's a beautiful card. Looks nicer than many 7's I've seen and as nice as more than a few 8's!

The slight tilt is barely noticeable....

    Some beautiful cards guys ,
FWIW there is a guy that has a card shop close to me that has this same card for sale ,
Probably a PSA 2 "it is currently ungraded" but this guy is off the wall wanting 6 grand for that card ,

I screamed in my head "6 GRAND!" and I think everyone in the shop still heard me image

I told him there isn't an Ice balls chance in hell you're getting top dollar for that card , he tells me , they sell for 6 grand all day .

I walked out laughing , not in that condition they don't pal .
It is too bad you could not cement a deal but it's not the end of the world .
