Who on this forum do you think has the most interesting card collection, and why? No, you may not v

I've been on this forum for most of this decade (especially the last 2-3 years) and I just can't believe all the interesting collecting topics people persue! image I mean, of course there's those that are all about PSA 10's and getting '52 Mantles and Jordans and so on, but I thought now would be a good time to shine the spotlight on those who may not have the most valuable collection, but most definetly deserve recognition for having the most interesting. Here's my picks:

* Our resident Bill "F-Face" Ripken collector
* Pretty much anyone who's a single player collector of someone who's NOT a superstar. In particular the Chris Sabo guy. image And of course, don't forget our resident Will Clark collector (fantastic website!) and more recently, our resident Brett Butler fan.
* I also like the guy who loves to collect controversial cards. Who would've thought in the 1970s you could get away with having sports cards showing players who love c-ck fighting and drinking beer? image

One big rule, you may NOT vote for your own collection. image

You gotta have respect for a man like Griffins who can collect a nice run of packs like that and not open them.

In the coin hobby, there are coin collectors and there are numismatists. Griffins is the card hobby equivalent of a numismatist.

I guess that would make him an ephemerist.

Off the top of my head:
Sean (HockeyAutoCollector) and his cut-auto collection, which is brilliantly done by Garret. (Knuckles) If you haven't looked lately at his work, follow the linky
Mike's Take Me Out to the Ballgame collection
    Matt's Emmitt collection
    Russ' Sabo collection
    Drew's Will Clark collection
  • Estil- Thanks for the mention. Reminds me, I need to make a FF thread showing a bunch of stuff !

<< <i> I also like the guy who loves to collect controversial cards. Who would've thought in the 1970s you could get away with having sports cards showing players who love c-ck fighting and drinking beer? >>

---Unsure if there's another, but thats me too !

My vote Griffins- hard to compile and keep unopened, awesome eye appeal, and even non collectors can respect a pack that has been unopened for xx years.

Also like the Sabo collection. There's power in numbers !!

I like Ripken in the minors as it's very informative for that niche.

Here's a collection. Not mine. Not a member of this forum but as A Dodger fan and considering these can get pricey, I like this collection.

My personal favorites belong to those who are the most passionate about their collections, regardless of the collection's actual value. I'm sure I'm forgetting some, but these are among the collections of which I speak:

    Matt's Emmitt collection
    Russ' Sabo collection
    Drew's Will Clark collection
    Stone's T3 collection
    RipulicanInMass's T3 collection
    Downtown's / relaxed 's 1955 Topps Set
    Gumby's Gantner collection
    Rube's Bowman football
All the guys on the registry board who particpate heavily in the thread specific to their set
    Estil's run of raw sets
    Estil's collection of images

If TJMAC is not the owner of the cards I'm about to describe, my apologies to him and the collection's true owner.

I find TJMAC's cards the most interesting. I think he collects and beautifully displays what he feels are the 30 best cards from a given vintage year. The overall quality and presentation of the cards makes me green with envy.

  • What about "mrnavarro".....I think I spelled his account right, maybe not. He has the HOF auto rookie collection. Just a neat idea and hard to compile collection.
  • I like Lawnmowerman's cards whenever he posts them.

This is a tough one - so many great collectors here too numerous to count - but the specialty collectors seem to have a unique passion like Matt, Drew, Russ etc. I.e. people who collect specific individuals like Sabo, Clark, Smith etc.

But, I'll have to give the slight nod to Drew since he's got a great Will Clark web.

If ya want to see just how passionate most are? Just go to the "mail thread" - it's a museum of cards!

If I remember correctly, Ladder7 has a pretty cool collection. He collects really nice cards (Cobb, Shoeless Joe and such) in a lower grade. It's a great way to pick up stuff you might not be able to afford otherwise.

Griffins pack collection is incredible! I think its cool he has not opened any of the packs.

I also like Stones board game collection, he has a wide variety and I think they are an overlooked collectible.

I can relate to 1989FleerBillRipkencollector, I have a passion for collecting Carl Willey items. I just got to get around to taking pics of all the items. I already own carltonwilley.com, and I want to display all my items there. He has a real passion and it shows.

Honestly, there are a lot of cool collections and collectors on here. Thats what makes this board so unique.

    Looking for Carl Willey items.

    I agree with this Shane.

I've seen part of it and it's incredible!!!!

Plus, he's got the bases covered on the more esoteric that Topps had to offer!

He's way too humble to share it but he's got the entire run!!!!!

If he had, I would've definitely placed him on top.

For those of you that voted for me, I'm glad you like the collection. I'm happy that I've finally found a direction in my collection and a goal to work toward.

My vote goes to a guy on the board named Jason. I'm not going to post his username as I don't know if he wants it out there or not. He has a HOF signed rookie and card collection that makes mine look infantile. Good guy as well, we correspond via PM frequently. My rookie collection only goes back to 1952 as that's the most my pockets can afford, but he has them all the way back to T206. Great stuff!!!

There are so many great collections on this board, but I guess the most interesting is Mike (Stone's). It seems his collecting interests are varied and I could probably spend hours looking through his stuff and hearing the stories behind them.

    Good thread topic.

I like the guy with the Sabo's. There is little monetary value in most of them and he just keeps on gathering them. An incredible quantity. I vote for him. I should add, there are many other worthy candidates as stated by so many of you.

    ditto.

Mike always has great scans of his pickups, take me out to the ballgame, and the stories about them are cool.

Thanks for the praises all... the collection is still growing.. maybe one day I'll post some more updates.

I've always admired Donovan's passion for the Riken FF card, and his desire for the error/misprint cards in general.

ALWAYS Looking for Chris Sabo cards!

    kirk is spot on.

didn't rbdjr break up his collection however?

once upon a time, I had over 75% of '69 topps white letter variations in psa 8 or better format, but that was long ago & i cannot vote for myself.

I would like to point out Steve's New York Mets team collection and Tony's Texas Rangers team collection. Tony looks to be over 90% complete on almost all Senators/Rangers cards from 1952 to present day! image Steve is right there with him with the New York Mets from 1962 to 2005 so far.

Team collectors can't really rely on other dealers or sellers to get their graded cards and therefore have to submit most of their own cards. It is a process that can take a long time and be very expensive.

Looking for Los Angeles/California/Anaheim Angels in PSA 8 or better

I'm going to go with Jay (jay0791). He's one of the few collectors besides myself (that I know of anyway) who collects HOF rookies for all 4 major sports. Great collection, and a cool guy to boot.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

I can't pick just one either...

Stone has some really cool oddball items and I am partial to memorabilia over cards in many ways.

Digi's Will Clark collection is simply incredible as is the website to go with it.

Jasp has a pretty killer football HOF... and Publis has some pretty sweet high grade vintage football, although he is too modest to show them off all that much.

The autographed 1950 Bowman set that Rube is (was) doing and the 1955 TAA that Reese is doing are incredibly ambitious as well.

    I'm a big fan of brianwintersfan's collection.

He's got Brewers & Bucks team sets in the registry. Along with his Brian Winters registry, he has a rather extensive collection of non-sportscard stuff (games on film, etc.) for Winters. He's recently taken on the Favre master set as well.

He keeps his collection local with players and teams he grew up loving. He gets my vote for favorite collection.

Thanks for the honorable mention Perk. I would love to add your 52 Larges to my collection!

Who's collection would I want to have? hmmm??? There are so many guys that have killer colections that its really tough choosing one. I know I would love to have some of DJSpann's collection...especially that AWESOME 1888 Beecher card of his.

Thanks BigDaddyBowman! You and Perkdog absolutely dominate the "Love the Vintage Football!" thread -- It's fantastic seeing all of your stuff on there. Your memorabilia room is incredible too -- don't you have a Sammy Baugh jersey on the wall?!

A lot of great collections have been mentioned here. Stone's collection has got to be one of the most interesting -- board games, decanters, take me out to the ballgame, etc. If we're strictly talking about an interesting card collection, though, I would like to add Shouldabeena10 to the list. He has an incredible variety of football cards in his collection from vintage to modern, common to rare and oddball. Of course, his collection wouldn't be complete without a healthy helping of minty round cards!
