Anyone have any luck with PSA-SET-GUY

So I always see PSA-SET-GUY add in the SMR:

"Our goal is to assist all members of the PSA Set Registry to complete, fill, upgrade or start their modern card set"

After reading that for several months I figure it's worth a shot so I send them an e-mail asking for help filling in some of my Jordan Base Registry Set. The email I get back from them basically said our entire inventory is on ebay. Gee guys thanks for the help!

Has anyone had luck with them outside of ebay or are their ads about helping collectors just BS?

I guess they're probably busy gearing up for the National but you would think their customer service would be better...

I've bought registry items from them off of ebay. They are easy to deal with if you just bid and pay. I've never tried to contact them, so no idea about customer service issues. The only thing I've ever had to contact them about is combining shipping which they always do right away.

They have started pricing their items on the high end lately and so I'm waiting until commons are back to $10, some were $15-$30 last month. Can't blame them for trying but I'm not paying $20 for a modern common, low pop or not when six months later there will be plenty to go around.

    A+ in my book.

  • I agree Mike. I have bought quite a few cards from him in the past.. usually pay around 1$0 for common 1980's cards, but his prices have gone through the roof ever since he changed his business. To answer the other question, I emailed him once for cards and he said everything he had was listed on Ebay, but he would keep an eye out for me. As far as customer service, he has been great though... fast shipping and no problems.

I think once you buy a decent amount from them they add you to their list in terms of looking out for your needs. I'm sure this is especially true if you've been overpaying for stuff. To be honest, they've probably got at least 3 good customers for Jordan stuff that would get first crack at a card before it sees the light of day. If you went to them and said "I'm looking for Don Aase PSA 10s and I'm willing to pay $25 per" then you would probably be added to their list. This certainly doesn't excuse the canned response they gave you, but they pretty much know any tough Jordan PSA 10 they get will be sold before it hits ebay.

Jeff it looks like you had the same experience I had when e-mailing them... His ads in SMR make it sound like they specialize in helping you build and fill in you collection when it appears they do not do that - they just sell in mass on ebay.

I've bought a ton of Ripkens from him in the past. I've only dealt with them through ebay, and it's all been positive.

I agree they have been great on ebay - I was just hoping for more but I'm sure Lee is right and there are much bigger fish out there than me on their lists.

I think Lee's point about overpaying is also key. There has to be some benefit to him selling a low pop card to you, $$, or why not just list it. Every deal that I have made off eBay to buy cards before auction has cost me about 1.25-1.5X more than I would have expected to pay at auction. I can't see them selling to you for less than that or they should take their chance and list.

It "saves" them only $1.50 in listing, FVF, and Paypal fees but they risk losing much more than that at auction if they get two crazy bidders who might bid it up to $15+ from their typical $10 starting point.

I think one of the reasons they might be listing so high recently is that registry members were offering 1.25-1.5X to get first crack at cards before the registry awards, but just a guess.
