78 Rookies with ink spot - grading impact?

What will the red ink print spots at the bottom of this card do to the grade? It's straight from a pack with great color and corners - it just has the ink problem.

  • That's a common problem on that card.

the infamous Trammell rookie smudge. about 75% have them. before grading, i was the envy because i managed to find the most perfect one- razor corners, perfect centering and NO SMUDGE! those were huge in Detroit and here it seemed around 99% had the smudge. i'm surprised there isn't as big a premium on the 9&10 nonqualifiers........

I thought that PSA quit giving a PD on this card??
  • i personally have never seen one in hand without that damn smudge`

I have heard that PSA is aware of the issue and usually do not give a qualifier.

I've got a really nice one going in next week with it, so we'll see.

I subbed two cards with that problem last year, and here are the results:

One got a 4 and one got a 8(OC). In my mind they were almost identical cards, both just came out of a fresh box, both were OC, and both had the ink smudge on it. *shrugs*

Here is mine. Better centering and it's a 9 and it has no smudge!

Thanks. Believe it or not I won a raw set from Steve at BBCE off of Ebay and that was the Molitor. I submitted it and got the 8.

    Nice card BrianW!

Looks like it all depends on the grader. I'd prefer an 8 PD over a 4/5/6 grade.

Yeah but as someone said I don't think that one gets hit with the PD because it is a known issue with that one.
